Newcomb's Is Gone

I got a text message from Carlos last night at 11:30 saying that Newcombs had caught fire.
I called this morning and he said that Victor was the last man standing and that he called to say he was evacuated as the flames over-took the building. He said they tried to save Chilao but lost that battle in addition to Fish Camp, Pacifico, the Cal Trans yard, and pretty much everything else on the mountain.

I can't believe it!!!

Here is the Newcomb's restaurant, which has been the Mecca for riders for years and years!!!

Here are a couple of shots taken yesterday during lunch with my cellphone (I am like 30 miles south of the fires):

That sucks, it's been 10 years since I've been there, but I will still miss the place.

In case you haven't seen this link, this is being updated with the extent of the Station Fire. It isn't completely accurate, as it was incorrectly showing the fire less than two miles from the 14 Freeway yesterday afternoon, but it is a good reference.

Is it true that they don't use salt (sea) water on fires? Is that because it could kill the vegetation on which it's dumped?

yup, thats the case. environmentalists under-estimate the power of the Earth to overcome human intervention. the fires are almost all in non-residential areas, where houses are barely spotted here and there but they're very close to outlying cities.

i'm sure that place had good insurance, just based on the location. those guys were good guys so i hope they rebuild b***** and better soon.

Just turned on the news and noticed that a firefighter was being interviewed, guess what stood in the backdrop!!!
