Hey everybody,

I just wanted to introduce myself on here. I ride a 2005 Suzuki GS-500F. I picked it up last Saturday at a local dealership for 3500. I really enjoy riding and I've already laid 'er down once. I came into a turn a lil' too hot and instead of leaning more and staying on the throttle, I chopped the gas and grabbed the front brake. I think me grabbing the front brake is a habit I used to do when I rode quads. You can probably figure out what happened next.

Anyway, I have a few questions:

1.) I'm probably going to need some frame sliders. Any suggestions?

and...

2.) How do you handle low-speed turns? Like coming from a 4-way stop and making a left turn after you've already come to a complete stop? I think that's what really gets me. I'm glad I have a yard to try and practice.

Thanks ya'll

Jordan

P.S. I do plan on taking the MSF course when I get out for summer. I barely have enough time to ride on the weekends right now.

Welcome to SBN and great choice of first bike.

The MSF course is all about slow speed handling. in the mean time, find an empty, clean parking lot to practice. Set up imaginary situations like the ones you're having trouble with and practice, practice, practice. Repetition is the key to training muscles and reactions. The only potential problem is developing bad habits before the MSF course. Try a book or DVD like Proficient Motorcycling for the basics.

Not sure about frame sliders for your bike, but here's a dedicated GS web site with tons of info:

Ride safe and have fun.

+1

Vortex makes good sliders. I don't know if they make anything for your bike.

Stay safe and practice OUT of traffic.

Tip 1: Your never too fast for a turn lean more and if you still think your goin 2 fast for a turn keep that bitch leaning. You will scrape pegs and exhaust well b4 you will tip over if you keep a steady throttle hand.
Tip2: Slow speed parking lot practice does translate into being an over all better rider at high speed and faster in the twisties.

Awesome

Thanks for the input, guys. I looked on the GS website and some had mentioned about drilling into the plastic to get some GSX-R frame sliders on there. This will require more thought. Any suggestions on jackets? I'm about 5'6 ish and I weigh 140. I'm going to try and head over to the dealer today and look at some jackets.

I have a near-abandoned parking lot really close to my house that I'll work on when I get some time to ride.

This site is off the chains...
