I've heard everything on this from putting the tyre through several heat cycles to taking it very easy for 100mi. My personal way (learned from an old road racer) is to rub the tyre with a shop rag that has been lightly wetted with brake cleaner. Mind , you don't spray the cleaner on the tyre, you spray the rag and wipe off the tyre. You will see the stuff coming off and you can also see the sheen taken off the tyre. I've been doing this for 14 yrs with no ill effects. It dosen't break down the rubber or cause dry rot. You still take it slightly easy but the slippery surface is less so for your first run.

Your spending lots of money pretty often for tires out of 95% of riders needs. Look at the metzeler z6 I have a 1000cc twin(torque monster) and I can't get the z6 to slip, used to have the Metzeler "race" tires and I like these better.

As for the scrubbing, I spray some more of the soap I used to mount the tire with, rub it with a rag, and rinse off.

when i get new tires i take every chance i get to lean them far over, but not hard. like a couple 180s or 90 at max lean which will get most of the outter layer off...and then go do some twisy riding and just take it down a notch or 2 for the first 30 minutes...then jsut go at it.

when i get new race rubber, i go 3/4 my orginal pace for the first 2 laps (6 miles at most) and then ride 10/10's. tires scrub in easier/faster than you think... :)

Yup. Same here. It doesn't take long to scrub off that crap.

The term "scrub" should be changed to something else.

You can scrub all you want but the silicants(sp) used to make the tires can only come off with heat. There embeded in the rubber and the heat brings them to the surface which is then worn off on the raod.

Just ride it at a 'normal' pace for a while before wicking it up.
