hi guys/girls, i've been lurking here for a long time and have learned a ton of info. Im going to start looking for a bike soon (EX500 or Ducati monster 620-used), but had a question about commuting.

I have a 12 mile commute to school and im all for wearing full gear every time i will ride.

My question is- do you guys take a change of clothes in a backpack or tank-bag? Wear gear that fits over regular street clothes? I'd rather not sit in classes all day in my leathers!

Brian

Btw, im taking the MSF course in the next few weeks and will then start shopping for a bike.

Well sometimes I wear my clothes under my suit, sometimes, if I don’t care about wrinkles, and I don’t.
But yes, usually if I need to go to a meeting or go see costumers I will carry a spare change of cloths for work and just wear my underarmor like normal and change at work.

I love my Icon Squad backpack. I pack clothes in it every day, and my laptop (it has a laptop compartment) - and at work, it has a helmet compartment that unzips from the bottom of the bag, so I've got a nice, safe, soft place to store my lid as well.

Good luck with your decision!

There was another thread on this subject not very long ago.

Before our dress code was relaxed and I had to dress in business casual, I would just bring a change of clothes (often just pants, since I could wear the same shirt under my jacket except in really hot weather) and I always kept a pair of decent, neutral colored shoes at my desk rather than carry them back and forth. I'd carry everything either in my tank bag or back-pack, depending on whether I'm also carrying my laptop or not.

when I ride to school I take an extra shirt in the backpack and put my jacket in the backpack so I don't have to wear it around all day.

I have a Joe Rocket Jacket and put the sliders underneath my regular jeans, cargo pants, etc. Also use tank bag for extra heavy days. Used to use cargo net but caught my undertail exhaust on fire.

^hahahaha omg I can just imagine that... omg ... please elaborate on the fire story...

I havnt had class since I got the bike but when I go back I plan on wearing some knee gaurds under my jeans so I can just throw them in the backpack once I get there and just carry in my jacket n helm like norm. Might take the overpants route and get a locker, infact thats probally what I'll do. Just get there 15minutes early hit the restroom up and change out then dump the crap in a locker.

I used to commute to work on my bike during the summer. I also commuted back and forth to school. When i wore full gear I would leave my dress shoes at my desk and just wear like basketball shorts underneath my fieldsheer overpants. I put my pants and a dress shirt in a backpack but it doesn't make it perfectly neat. It was weird walking into the office in full gear. If you're just commuting to school, I would just go the backpack or tankbag scenario because wrinkles and presentation won't be a major importance.

I wear a rocket jacket over whatever shirt, a backpack and jeans or khaki's and don't get too crazy on the way to work. A full suit and helmet is a lot to lug around in a backpack all day, not to mention books and other stuff. A jacket alone will fit well in a backpack with room left over for other stuff........ add pants, and it's a different story.

P.S.
FattBri, give me a shout when you get your bike and we'll take a ride. We need to get the ATL bikers together! Nobody seems to want to get out.
