Hi, I am new to your group, in the market for a new bike, plan to do
demo rides this weekend in Daytona with Triumph, Kawasaki & Yamaha.
This is my list of bikes I am looking at:

I have not riden any of these other than the Buells, my current bike,
a Blast started failing me after 16 months (8k miles). The exhaust
has broken 4 times since November, they have replaced the complete
exhaust twice, head once, all the motor mounts and exhaust mounts
more than once. I thought they got it fixed at the end of the year,
but it broke again last week. So it is time to move on.

Of these bike, I understand I can raise bars and lower the seat to
decrease the preasure on the wrists and make the riding position more
upright.

When I tested the xb9, I thought it was under powered, but I am not
looking to race or do anything extreme, primarily commuting and
weekend rides through the twisties.

I also like the naked look, and have heard rumors of a naked 675 this
summer, Kawa sells the naked 650 overseas but not here in the states.

Any suggestions?

Rank Bike Price
1 Triumph Daytona 675 $8,999
2 Kawasaki Ninja 650R $6,399
3 Yamaha FZ6 $6,949
4 Suzuki V-storm 650 $6,699
5 BMW F650 CS $7,525
6 Buell XB9SX $8,895
Current Buell Blast $4,400

TIA,

Mitch

I would suggest trying to sit on all of the bikes you are thinking of getting and see how they feel. You might also look into a Triumph speed triple if you like naked bikes.

On another note welcome to SBN.

Welcome. I'd second that if you like naked bikes check out the Speed Triple, the Daytona 675 is damn sweet too. Also, if you like Buells they also make the XB12 Lightning and Firebolt (900cc compared to 1200cc). That'd give ya a nice bump in hp and torque. I near purchased a 2005 XB12R for $5,500 with 2,000 miles and no damage, good deals can be found for the 2003+ Buells.

The Ninja 650R is pretty cool looking but from the specs I've seen if you thought the XB9 was slow, that bike will feel even slower. Couldn't tell ya anything about the other bikes on the list.

Are you set on getting a BRAND NEW bike?
Since you like the Naked Look and seem to aspire to an upright seating position, but want good power, I'm kind of surprised you haven't considered an '05 or '06, low mileage (likely still under warranty) or even new leftover
Z1000. For some reason they haven't sold as well in the U.S. as overseas so they can be found well within the price range of the bikes you specified. I've had my '03 since the first weeks they came out. It has been totally flawless and nothing but a total joy. I'm nearly your age and cannot deal physically with the hunched-over posture of SS bikes, and am not in the greatest shape besides, yet I've been able to do 400 and 500+ mile days on rides to California with plenty of twisties thrown in, without being wiped out.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of considering one of these. They seem to fit all your requirements quite nicely.

Also, I have no desire for the new '07 Z1000. They've changed too much, especially the totally ridiculous exhaust, so I can see why you'd walk past THAT one if you've done so...ugh!

Or you could buy my 2005 XB9SX with alot of go faster goodies for 6500.00.
I'll be in Daytona this weekend also if you want to see it, Fri or Saturday.

I was really trying to stay in the 600 series bike, didn't really look at the 1000 series, except for the Buell xb9, because that is the next size up.

Ken, are you the "ken" from Seminole Buell? If so, I talked to you today, I plan to come by the shop Friday afternoon :)

Sunday is looking better for Daytona, weather wise.
