Hello all. Glad to join here. I come from NASIOC which happens to be a huge Subaru Forum. Yes Im into cars.

Well after seeing so many pics of bikes and seeing people riding them, I really got to thinking about purchasing one.

I will admit to knowing VERY little about bikes. I will search in a bit, but if I had around $1000-$4000, what kind of bike could I get. I dont want anything super fast, just something reliable, cheap, etc...

any advice is GREATLY appreciated.

edit: Just found that there is also a noobie section. Reading the stickies now...

So after reading some stuff, I realize my life matters, so i dont wanna die. Having said this, would the Kawasaki 250r be a good ride for a beginner? I was to told to get this from other bikers.

First off, welcome! I used to live in ct, so I know you have some great roads up in the northwest of the state!

The used market for beginner bikes is kinda tough in our state unfortunately. You seem to have a goodhead on your shoulders, and for your price range I really would recommend finding a ninja 500- it's a great bike and will serve the sweeping hills of ct well! Good luck :)

dumb question. So Ive been lookin at videos, and I guess to change gears you click on a lever located next to your left foot. And the cluth is on the left handle. What is on the right handle? is it the throttle and brakes? how do I rev it? i assume by twisting the handle.

wow...ok...before you buy your bike I would strongly urge you to take MSF. I used to live in New Haven and took it at Gateway in North Haven. Great instructors there. Yes, you twist the handle on the right, and the lever on the right is the front brake. Note that unlike a car you operate the rear and front brakes separately. The rear brake is a lever below your right foot.

Where in CT are you? For future reference, Route 34 from New Haven is a great ride. Not too many twistys but very picturesque, sweeping curves etc. Its a two lane in parts so can be frustrating to be stuck behind a cage. Beware of the roads in CT during the spring - the salt is deadly, and during the summer the sand can kill.

Hello from Naugatuck, CT as well and welcome from NASIOC. I used to have a modded 04 STi but ride something a bit quicker these days. I also suggest taking the MSF ASAP. You'll save on insurance and won't have to take the DMV riding test also.
