While I wait for a good deal on a bike, I'm searching for possible gear options. Here's what I got so far:

Helmet: Scorpion Exo-700
http://www.extremesupply.com/scorpionhelmets/scorpionexo700raider.htm
I really want the Raider style, but I can only find it for 199.99. Anyone know where I can find it for cheaper?

Jacket: MotoGP Corkscrew Leather or MotoGP Perimeter Textile

http://newenough.com/closeouts/text...o_gp/perimeter_textile_motorcycle_jacket.html
I probably would of gotten the MotoGP leather jacket already, but the size and color I wanted sold out. I'm considering getting the textile jacket.

Gloves: MotoGP RPM Gloves

Good gloves, cheap price.

Boots: A* One-O-One Riding Shoes or Setup Pegaso Vented Boot
http://newenough.com/boots/sport_st...estars/one_o_one_motorcycle_riding_shoes.html
http://newenough.com/boots/sport_street_touring_boots/set_up/pegaso_vented_motorcycle_boot.html
The A* look like they'll offer more protection, and they're cheaper.

Any comments or suggestions? I'll get a pair of overpants later on, so please don't hate.

I think the gear looks good! The boots I am not sure about. I just ordered the Sidi Champion Airs which are just like the Setup Pegasos and I am concerned they don't offer much ankle protection. Is it really necessary to have race style boot or are these fine?

I'm not really interested in race style boots, since I'll be riding mainly for commuting. I just wanted to have more than one choice. I probably would choose the A* over the Setups.

The thing to keep in mind about your boots is the fact that having some protection over your ankle is imperative. Crashing in something like that could easily result in a very broken ankle

+1 to proper riding boots that protect your ankles well. As I just posted in another "shoe" thread, how would your ankle fair sliding down the road with your bike on top of it?

And don't forget pants. The skin on your lower body shreds just as well as any other even "just commuting". At least look at some textile over-pants.

The boots that I mentioned both have ankle support and protection. There's definitely boots with better protection out there, though.

Don't waste your money on the A* shoes. The boots should be fine for commuting. Good choice in gear.

You might want to consider overpants as well.

You're half right (the second statement). Not trying to be an a$$, but I value having my feet for walking around. You can't imagine how torn up feet and ankles can get in even a mild get-off on a bike.

To comment on the ankle protection, both the boots you listed have minimal ankle support. The A* shouldn't even count as any ankle protection. The Pegaso is much better of the two.

Protection wise, the A* is just a little better than sneakers and probably below a regular work boot. The Pegaso is better than an over-ankle work boot, but not nearly as good as a race styled boot.

The thing about the Pegaso is that it covers the ankle, but it doesn't seem to offer that much protection. I wouldn't mind racing style boots, but I want something that is comfortable for walking in all the time, and that can be worn under regular pants. I saw these in the "best boots for walking" thread:

They don't go that high, but they seem to offer adequate ankle protection. How do thy look?

Again, not trying to be an a$$, but you seem to be stuck on riding shoes that look "normal". All of that type of riding shoe are better than Vans, but not a lot. Gear is a compromise some times. Riding boots that have stiff material that comes up high over your ankle provide better protection, but you have to wear whatever it is you're going to get. If you can't (or won't) wear boots that will protect your ankles and maybe carry shoes for walking around, get some riding shoes.

I just got those boots last week and have worn them to work for the last 4 days. i stand at work for 8 hrs a day and these are just as comfortable as most of my regular shoes. i also have the moto gp jacket and scorpian helmet. you'll be happy with those also..
