My lady loves to watch that show on MTV called "Sweet 16". If you haven't seen it, it is about kids (mostly girls, but I've seen one gay and one straight boy) who are about to turn 16 and plan a party. But it is not just any party. These kids say it has to be the best party anyone has ever given. And it usually ranges from 200,000-and up.
The kids are very snobby and self-centered and they have no problem admitting it. They will rent out these huge clubs or arenas. They will have it all decorated into whatever theme they want. Their entrance has to be "da bomb" so they will get things like 6 muscular, hung men to carry them in one of those "queen baskets" Or they will come in a carriage and horses. Or get lions and pythons to escort them. I think one even came in a helicopter. The boy was escorted by one of the female celebrity artists that worked for his fathers label. And that's the cheap stuff.
They also have to have a celebrity guest. One girl had "Pitbull", another had???? I forget the names of these new artists since most aren't worth remembering. But anyway, these artists are payed tens of thousands for twenty minutes of work.
And when all is said and done they get their present ("oh", the party, jewlery, custom dresses that some fly private jets out of the country to get, aren't the presents). The present is the $80,000 mercedes, BMW, Hummer, or or other high priced vehicle that no 16 year old that doesn't work for deserves.
And through all of the prep and partying they are complaining, whining, tantruming, and acting pathetic. During the party, normal and decent acting kids are turned away because they aren't cool enough to be at "MY party". Oh yeah, the words "ME, "I", "MY", "MYSELF", and "MINE" are used frequently.
Its very sad, acutally.
My question is this. I for one do not think that any 16 year old child, that does not work on stage with their five brothers or on the silver screen outwitting criminals at home because their parents forgot them, deserves a $200,000-$500,000 EVENING. Not even a whole 24 hours, just an evening. Especially, when they act so selfish and self-centered. And they really believe that they are most beautiful creatures to walk the earth (and believe me they aren't). None of them do charity work, or stars of the teams, or Ivy League potentials. They do nothing, but recieve. And the only place I have looked at to find out this happens, is at the PARENTS. And for allowing something like this to take place, the parents are either "the world's greatest parents" or " stupidest parents to walk this planet"? Even if you had the money to do this for your snobby, tantruming, ungrateful child, would you?

I watched that show once and i couldnt believe how much it pissed me off. I cant believe that any one would want to watch some stuck up dumb bitch whine and complain about things that other people dream of. When this one girl started throwing a tantrum and getting pissed at her dad because he got her the wrong color BMW i seriously wanted to stab her in the face.

I didnt get a damn thing for my 16th birthday, much less a $50,000 car or even a $500 car. While the kids piss me off, the parents piss me off even more with their stupidity. When you buy a kid everything they ever wanted and build them up to make them think that their shit dont stink what the hell do you think you can do to make them happy when they allready have everything.

Kids=Dumb ass spoiled rich kids.
Parents=Even dumber waste of skin.

This thread is wierd. I was watching MTV and left my tv on. When the show that i was watching was over that gay ass sweet 16 show came on. And i am sitting here wondering why the fuck it's on my tv........i just changed it.

Back on track, the show is ridiculous. The parents should be bitch slapped and those kids should be shot.

Can they really call themselves MTV anymore b/c that last time i checked they don't play music videos anymore, just shows about spoiled rich kids and so called reality tv shows. Its ridiculous that they had to start another channel just to show videos.

Yeah, about the show my ex-girlfriend made me watch that crap all the time and it drove me crazy to see these spoiled ass kids bitch about everything and the parents just sit there and take it. I think they are trying to make up for being aweful parents and people by spoiling their kids which makes it even worse. I went to school with alot of kids of like that and i'll admit that my parents spoiled me but i have also had a job since i was sixteen and have paid for every vehicle i have ever owned.

All the show is, is rich people trying to keep up with the Joneses. I can picture the kid now. "So and so had a party and spent $100K+ on it"...so mom and dad not wanting to let some no-body (in their mind) out do them they toss their child a wild party to show the Joneses "your shit was nothing compared to ours". I expect the show to get worst and worst as time goes on and everyone one keeps trying to out do the other.

I went to private schools overseas (thank you, your tax money at work:p). Funny part is all the "rich" kids in my school and no one acted like that. It was not a big deal if someone wore a $20K Rolex to class, or just got back from a flight to NY on the concord jet...they did not brag and no one cared. During High School we had some wild parties and whoever was throwing it that weekend did not say who could or could not come. Everyone was welcome to come....we had a computer teacher that would show up, well untill the school told him to stop...LOL Heck I remember one kids parents coming in and we are all drinking and they brought up cases of Dom and boxes of Cuban Cigars for everyone.

Unlike the kids on TV, these people came from "OLD" money, and they will always have money but even knowing that they all went on to Universities such as Harvard and Yale to get degrees, Master Degrees and PHD's whether they use them of not. Their parents wanted them to expand their minds, and do something on their own to attach THEIR name to it and not ride on their parents name through life.

I kinda feel sorry for those kids on MTV, their parents are doing them wrong by not pushing them to make a name for themselves.

+1,000,000.....

MTV became a pointless waste of broadcast spectrum many, many, years ago. I deleted the MTV channels from my satellite receiver guide years ago.....

Anyone see that one where that girl died her poodles pink? Shit, she had the most annoying voice ever! She was dumb as a rock too. That show sucks, and so does MTV.

It's even more ridiculous that even M2 doesn't show many videos nowadays. Last I checked, their lineup looked like MTV's from a few years ago. A few shows are remotely related to music and that's pretty much it.

And I've seen that Sweet 16 show unfortunately. It's a stupid show with a bunch of stupid people. I might have been spoiled a little, but I didn't get my own car until I graduated and paid for most of it myself. Before that, I drove my mom's Aerostar. Those people are snobs.

I am so glad that I am not the only one that think these parents on that show are idiots. Some of you say that you were spoiled and that is fine. If your parents have worked their asses of to provide their own with good lives. I am the last on to argue. But it also sounds like when it came to big items like cars, they expected you to work and help yourself get it. Also, you can be given more than most kids and not be spoiled. As long as your parents DEMAND respect, hard work in school, responsibilities around the house, and things like that, having extra is fine. As long as its within reason. Putting hundreds of thousands of dollars in one party is not reasonable. Along with cars, jewlery, and disrespect.
It makes me sick to know that stuff like that happens. How many of us work our asses off everyday with the knowing that 1/2 the money it takes to have those parties will get us out of debt and will provide money to put in savings so we can stay ahead. NO 16yr old deserves a four hour party worth that much.
And I agree with all of you, MTV is not about music videos anymore. Its about stuck up youngsters showing their face on tv and beingn involved in a bunch of drama. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.
But my lady watches it, which pretty much means I have to watch it when no games are on. I do love cursing out the tv when I have to watch it though.

I've watched that program three times. I think it's great. It demonstrates the increasingly narcissistic times we live in.
