I see all of the seat manufacturers on the forum for the 2009 FZ-1, but do not see a rating for their seats anywhere.

I have seen good reports on the TS on other forums, but not perfect. I also like Sargent, but others have said they are good for 200 miles then you need a break and they are not cheap.

I was also thinking of trying to get a custom seat made locally using my stock pan. Any helpful hints for the trim guy?

***On this forum, who is very satisfied with their aftermarket seat?

Take the bike to a local seat upholsterer and get them to replace the soft factory foam with a firmer foam instead.
It is the softness of the stock foam that causes a sore arse on an FZ1.

I suppose the trim guy will know what material is best to use. I wonder if he would use the same cover or go all new?

There are two well respected trim shops run by old-timers near me. As soon as I get the bike I will see what they have to say. If I find a cost-effective solution (<$125), do you think maybe a hand full of other FZ-1 owners would be interested?
