Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson's hard-knocks history of growing up in Brooklyn is well documented. He navigated a bumpy road to the top of his profession in the '80s, got knocked out by Buster Douglas in 1990, served jail time for a rape conviction and seems to have a propensity for bizarre behavior.

Not to mention Tyson, who turns 38 on Wednesday, is in debt up to his eye tattoo.

Tyson told the London Evening Standard in Monday's editions that he has been sleeping in homeless shelters and living like a "street bum" since declaring himself bankrupt, and has been accepting handouts from drug dealers.

"For two years I have been a bum, truly a bum in the streets," he told the paper.

"I've got nowhere to live. I've been crashing with friends, literally sleeping in shelters. Unsavory characters are giving me money and I'm taking it. I need it. The drug dealers, they sympathize with me. They see me as some sort of pathetic character."

Tyson will fight British boxer Danny Williams on July 30 in Louisville, Ky., and hopes to use his winnings from this and six other planned fights to pay his debts.

Though he once had $300 million in the bank, now Tyson is $24.4 million in the red, even after a settlement with promoter Don King that would pay the former champ $14 million.

"When I had money, I was an animal. I was so belligerent. I lost all across the board. My life has been a total waste," Tyson told the Evening Standard.

Tyson, who served three years in jail for rape in the 1990s and who bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear during a 1997 fight, admits he has changed, though for better or worse isn't easily discernible.

"I know I was a tough, bad-ass talking fighter, but I ain't no mob figure. I did my time for the rape. I paid my money to Las Vegas. I paid my dues," he told the paper.

"I ain't the same person I was when I bit that guy's ear off."

Tyson is an idiot. I can't believe he's gonna fight again. Nobody is scared of him beating them anymore, they're just scared he'll try to maim them by biting or scratching or kicking them or something.

He's gonna end up killing someone soon, because he's crazy. They should just lock him up now and get it over with.

Ridiculous, most people would be able to survive off the $300 million he had at one point. I could care less how he is living now.

Idiots with money. Tyson was spending something around 70,000 dollars a month on a personal trainer for his lion that he owned.

The guy was misled, he had a manager/trainer that looked out for him and once he passed away tyson had nobody to tell him what was right from wrong.

My co worker and I were just laughing at his story. What will really be funny is if he turns into a full blown life of crime and begins to rob people with that bitch ass voice of his.

He was a full blown criminal prior to being a boxer.

If tyson could have found someone that treated him and repsected him like Cus D'amato Tyson would have never been taken advantage of the way he has been. He is so immature and just can't think rationally.

It's so true, something isn't right with Tyson. He can't make good decisions, his brain just dosn't work like it's supposed to. I thought when he said "I ain't the same person I was when I bit that guy's ear off" was hilarious. It makes it sound like he dosn't even know who's ear he bit off or who he was fighting.

Come on now....how in the hell can you blow $300 million. Did he really spend close to $70,000 a month for a lion trainer? That would explain why. He spend his money on shit like that. Who the hell has a lion for a pet anyway! Thats why there are zoo's

Bob and Tom from the morning radio show have offered to pay for Tyson to complete his face tattoo.
Yes, he's a thug criminal. But he is also stupid, which is why he got taken advantage of. I heard he used to pay some guy named 'crocodile' to keep telling him he was cool. I think he called him a verbal support provider.
I'll cut him some slack. There is a gargantuan amount of money, taxes, bills, etc flying around a guy that gets punched in the head for a living. How many reasonably intelligent rock stars are parted from their money? When you have that much money in such a complex system of accountants, lawyers, pitch men, sponsors, contracts, etc- it's easy to skim off the top for a dishonest accountant.
Same happens to models. The way they get paid is difficult to file with the IRS, and let's face it- if she had the looks of a model, paying attention in math class isn't really required.
So who do you blame? The rich moron? The thieving hucksters? Or us, the intelligent people that pony up to make imbiciles that stinking rich in the first place?

I actually like Tyson. But I can't doubt how fucked up he is, just listen to the things he says.

"One morning I woke up and found my favorite pigeon, Julius, had died I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honor him. I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. That is straight from Tyson talking about his childhood.

Tyson was in trouble in court with his ex-wife and sold his CT mansion worth 9 million for I believe 1 dollar to settle out of court.
