I pulled my garage kept 2008 SV650SF out of the garage this last weekend and noticed that the front tire had started to show the signs of dry rotting. The tire was purchased 7/16/12 and I had put about 5k miles on it. I contacted Michelin and they advised me to take it into one of their dealers. I then called the dealership service department and advised them of my situation and they said it was common and wasn't probably going to get anything out of the inspection and case.

I purchased a PR3 Front tire replacement for $108 shipped today from online vendor, it was the last one they had. I had a very bad experience riding on dry rotten tires so I do not chance it anymore.

Thoughts and Advise?

Look at the date on the sidewall of the tire. I forget how to read the code. It could have been 3 years old when you bought it

IIRC, there should be an oval with 4 digit number. the first two are the week, last two are the year. i.e., (3412) would be the 34th week of 2012.
