has anyone ever used a clip style master link instead of the rivit type. I got my new chain and the thing is the rivit type. I really dont want to buy the chain press its alot of money for how many times ill use it. So is it ok to use a clip type instead?

I use the clip type on both by bikes. Never had any trouble. Just make sure the "c" clip is on with the open end facing the rear of the bike if the link is on the top chain, and to the front if the link is on bottom. The rotation of the chain can throw off the clip if it faces the wrong direction. I have seen this happen.

I use a clip as well - If you want to be extra secure you can put a loop of safety wire and/or a small shot of silicone sealant on the clip. Just in case...

Be generous with the grease on the rings, and be sure you press the side plates fully into place (they'll be lined up with the others) before you slide the clip home.

Scott :)
