Looks like I'll be loosing my garage when I move into a condo/townhouse. Just wondering what steps I can take to best protect my bike. The places I'm looking at have small back porches that I could roll the bike up onto, but I fear people might complain if that becomes an every day thing since I'd have to traverse a small lawn to do so. I installed a Scorpio SR-i500 w/all the bells and whistles last year, and my bike tops the scales at 500+ lbs, so it's not the easiest thing to throw in the bed of a pickup. I could probably roll the bike right in the front door without much notice, does anyone store their bike inside like that on a daily basis? What other obstacles can I put in the way of some thieving bastard? It's not a bad area, but it is a college town, so you never know.

Not looking forward to loosing the garage, but I'll be about 2 minutes from some of the best roads in New York, it takes me about an hour to get there from where I am now. Can't wait.

find a friend who will let you store the bike at his/her garage or get a storage unit.

How far away is a storage facility from your new location: The small units can cost as little as 50.00 a month, and they usually have electricity too.

Pitch a tent next to it
Ha!!, then with me in a tent I could always rent the condo to pay for the mortgage... :slaugh

Thanks Kneedraggin, don't know how I missed that one. I did try a search, but it's not a topic that's easily searched with one or two words - turned up nearly every "my bike was stolen" thread, which didn't make me feel too good about loosing the garage...

I'll definitely look into a storage unit, but that would again put me a ways away from the roads I'm moving to be near.

So anyone here live in or around New Paltz, NY?

There's some outside town a ways, but there can be a LOT of traffic through town during the summer months, which would take time to get to and from. That's probably my best bet though, and I'll be needing a place to store the car ('Vette) during the winter anyway, so I'll definitely look into it.

If you can afford it get a storage unit. They're great for working on the bike too. Nice flat surface with lots of room for tool boxes and the like. Usually parking lots aren't most desired to work on your bike.

I know I wouldn't want to leave it at a unit and have to drive there to get my bike, so I would probably just intall quite a few large eye hooks into whatever stable concrete you can find, chain the hell out of it, set the alarm and USE A COVER.

You'd be surprised how many people simply look over bikes just because they have a cover. Dont use a fancy Hyabusa cover either, that draws attention. I have a large piece of black canvas that I use. Just toss is over the bike and leave it be. Seems like the more ratty the cover the better. Fabric stores usually have some decent material for this.

Just looked at the place again today and it should be pretty easy to get it in the front door or onto the back porch. There's a railing and a lockable gate to the porch, so it should be relatively secure. And I'll definitely have it under a cover... someone should make motorcycle covers with WEBER in big letters on the side, everyone would just think it's one of those big grills.
