I'm looking at an F3 with 32,000. The owner claims to have maintained the bike religiously, warmed it up before revving it, cooling it down after riding, oil, etc. Brakes, shock, front fork springs and oil, sprockets, brakes, tires, are all within a year old and are all upgraded. He's asking $2600. Do you think this is worth buying? It seems that all the normal maintenance issues with high mileage bikes have been taken care of, except the engine, which has been maintained well. Therefore, do you think I would end up pouring a lot of money into this thing just to keep it running in the next few years? How long you think I could expect it to run without major needs?

Thanks for the input,
Zack

You're going to hear both views on this one. 32k miles isn't a killer, but you never know. That bike could easily go 60k or more with no issues. On the other hand, F3's are prone to electrical issues I believe (regulator/rectifier) and maybe cam chain tensioner. Neither is a huge issue, but something to consider. The price seems a bit high as well. If the bike looks to be in great shape and you can get it for a few hundred less, might be a good deal.

i kind of have the frame of mind as zxhunter. now, i dont know a damn thing about bikes, but i know with things like jet skis (especially standups) the motor is CONSTANTLY revving from an idle at about 1k rpm to almost full throttle at up to 9k rpm. now on any other engine, this would be hell, but because they're BUILT to do this, there are very few adverse effects. if the powerband on your bike STARTS at like 5k +, is 10k every now and then really THAT killer?

32k isn't a lot of miles. Whoever thought that it was... "Lawl."

The R/Rs on all honda bikes are subject to overheating and general suckiness. The bike itself sounds solid, and I'd put a fan on the R/R, and put a voltmeter so you can see if the R/R stops working properly before it leaves you stranded. R/R units are very cheap to replace.
The other problem chain-driven cam equipped Hondas have is the CCT going shitty. This is noisy, but not entirely dangerous to the bike, I'm told. All the same, another cheap fix.

as long as the bike has been maintained it should be fine, but if you are worried look for something else.
I have a friend who I occasionally ride w/that has over 80k on his katana and it still runs strong.
