Good idea? Bad idea? I'm mainly concerned with the possibilites of A) crashing or B) breaking down. I have done quite a bit of work on bikes, but since this bike is (seems to be) very reliable, I haven't actually done any work on it but replacing oil and brake pads and whatnot so I don't really know my way around it.

What I'm considering is probably up to 1000 miles one way, 3 day time frame 2 weeks from now.

My backup plan for something bad is getting a uhaul or something and trucking back that way. I figure with a good toolkit and good route planning I shouldn't have a problem.

I would say as long as some one knows where you are going, when you should get there, the route you plan to take and you stay in contact with them you would be pretty safe... Best to make sure someone knows all that I would think... just in case... Have a good trip :)

take a phone w/you in case you need to contact someone, and let someone know your planned route in advance.

Thanks for the responses. Might go to either Dallas, Moab or Chicago. Still haven't figured it out :D

Moab's way nice, but very hot in the summer. Spring or fall is the best time go there. If you go there rent a mountain bike, and ride Slick Rock!
