I can't even believe I was seeing it! How does one ride a motorcycle - at least outside of first gear - in FLIP FLOPS?

Seriously, folks, I know on this forum, a lot of fun is made of GIXXER riders who wear tank tops, flip flops and shorts :squid , but I never thought it was actually REAL! :rolleyes

I live in Watauga (a little South of Keller, TX - in the Metroplex) and I don't know if any of you know of Hwy. 377 out that way - but it's a very busy highway running from North Loop 820 to Keller. People get into accidents and get Care-Flighted out of there on a regular basis. It's a zoo!

I was going to Southlake, and saw this guy role through the intersection to the center turn lane on what appeared to be a Gixxer 600. He was wearing - no kidding - a tank top, flip flops, shorts, and no helmet or gloves. His girlfriend on the back was in like apparel. How does one even shift up with flip flops - it's uncomfortable enough to me with running shoes (on the oft chance I ride around the block to check something out before or after maintenance).

Some people just never fail to amaze me!

Everyone....wear your gear - and if you know of a squid like this :squid be sure to tell him/her to wear gear, too! It's almost maddening to see someone with that little respect for the bike, riding, or themselves.

Unfortunately it isn't without innocents getting hurt. Like tonight when a HD rider thought he could keep up with sportbikes in the twisties on the way to Specht's Store. Went into a right sweeper too hot and in the WRONG LANE. Then decided to scrub speed WITH REAR BRAKE. Yes, he locked it. Unfortunately, a bicyclist was going the other way and got hit.

Yes, skid marks IN THE LEFT LANE. Left plenty of chrome bits too as the fixed hard points dug ruts into the pavement.

I gota say this has nothing to do with what kind of riding gear the guy had on. Rather that he was riding above his limits. Even sombody who was ATGATT could have gotten in the same situation.

Now I do admit that not wearing gear and not learning to ride well and trying to show off seem to go together quite often.

If you dont want to wear gear and get yourself killed go ahead. I will not miss you. But if you hurt somebody else because you where stupid and trying to show off, you deserve to die a very slow and painfull death, hopefully strung out over years of time.

How come everyone knocks the gixxer riders?? Yeah there are some stupid ones, but I see 'em all over the place and not just on gixxers. We're not all jackasses.

you're right, not all gixxer riders are jackasses, but thats a social stigma youll have to live with forever, because you have to admit that squids <3 gixxers. back to the flip-flops thing: i can barely ride my little minibike around the yard in flip flops, i cant see how guys do it on sportbikes. dumb dumb dumb.
