I'm shopping for a textile mesh jacket and trying to get a simple color that isn't too tacky. I'm thinking I should stay away from black since it attracts more sun/more heat... but, is this really a big consideration that should be made? How much hotter do you all think black would be compared to grey or silver? I think when moving, it won't be such a big deal but sitting in traffic might be another story (in which case it's going to be hotter than hell anyway and might not matter what I'm wearing).

Thanks for replies.

go with what you feel looks and feels best for you, and offers good protection from the elements and the road. Imho, there is nothing wrong with black mesh. My last jacket {before I got the Rocket} was straight black leather----sure it was hot in the summer, but when i ride up north, I found the "breeze" from the ride kept me ok.

I had a black mesh for a short time (Teknic). Sold it and bought a blue FirstGear. Far better quality material and found it noticably cooler!

When mesh jackets first came out, someone did a study on heat absorption of the different colors. IIRC, black was worse (obviously), red and blue weren't much better, and silver and yellow were a little better. Light grey or silver would be better if you're sitting in traffic, but like you say it won't matter too much. When moving, the airflow will make the differences in color minor. Get the color you want.

I have a black mesh fieldsheer M3, MUCH better armor than what first gear offer, and had no problems with it being to hot, (black also dissapaits heat faster)
Black might dissipate heat from an exhaust pipe but not from ones body. Stand outside in a black jacket here during the summer(spring or fall) and one a lighter color and there is an immediate difference that is noticble.

90 degree temps here already that probably won't go away until next November w/ high humidity the norm.

Style vs function (armor can be changed to CE or whatever in most jackets). Most manufacturors are improving their armor and protection on their newest models.

mesh

I use an all black mesh textile during the summer, the jacket is way coler than my all leather Icon Daytona. As long as I am moving at 10 mph or more I stay reasonably cool in 90 plus heat.

Sorry you didn't get the joke, I will try to go for the lowest common denominator next time :moon :)
