I was curious to hear what everyone thought about the audio performance of the shuffle as compared to a mini or nano iPod while riding a sportbike. Let's not get sidetracked into a safety thread about music listening; I just want to know if the shuffle iPod is sufficient volume wise as I don't care about the lack of visual screen and the small, light size and cheap price as well as the neck lanyard sounds perfect for a good ride under the leather.

Will I be happy with the shuffle or will I be better off going with the larger, heavier versions because they rock out a little harder? Thanks

It's pretty much the same to me, just smaller and no screen and can hold like 5 songs (exaggeration, but you know what I mean by it doesn't hold much), if you can pay $100 bucks more you might as well go ahead and get the nano

I use mine everytime I ride. I will have to take a pic of how I have it set up. I leave the armband on the clamp and just remove the shuffle when I get on or off the bike. Its pretty simple. I can get a few more songs then 5..about 120ish depending on compression. The headphones suck....but all ipod headphones suck. I was looking to either get the helmet speakers or some better headphones this weekend.

In the way of sound...its good and the volume is plenty even at freeway + speeds.

Hope the info helps and I will see about taking a pic tonight if anyone is interested in how I have it set up.

In regards to capacity... I couldn't even fit half of my Iron Maiden collection on one of them... It's not like you're going over too rockey of terrain with a roadbike, so the hard drive won't be affected. For nothing else, get a 30gb iPod (like 4.4 ounces I believe, but get a case for it...) for storage and battery life.

Just invest in some noise-cancelling headphones. expensive, i know, but they really work and are great at highway speeds...just be sure to be more aware of your surroundings, because they REALLY DO cancel out ALL outside sound.

"Iron Maiden" Boy that brings back memories. Powerslave and Live after Death were my favorite two albums in High School. My 1 gigabyte shuffle easily holds 130 songs on it.
Well, at this point I have about 370 songs by Iron Maiden, 270 by Metallica, 150 by Megadeth, 60 by Bruce Dickinson, and some other things that I actively listen to. And this is only 4 artists, I have waaay more on my iPod.

Oh, and I'm 16. Beats the hell out of this rap shit that's always on...

Nice to know that good music stands the test of time. I do not want to put down todays music; however, it does not seem that many artists today can generate more than 1 cd worth of quality music.
