So my has 2000 miles on it now, not had a single issue until this morning.

I jump on it to ride home from work and the Fuel Injection Warning light stays on after starting it up.

I bump the throttle, suspecting maybe a bit of blockage, and the engine RPM shoots up and stays there despite my hand not being on the throttle anymore.

So, I hop off the bike and shut her off, check the throttle cable and such, everything functional there. Turn the key back on and voila, no FI light this time. Starts right up and purrs like a kitten the whole way home.

So, opinions? Whatever it is, I would assume it's covered by my extended warrantee since it's fuel injector shit, but I figured I'd ask you guys and see whatcha thought first.

Couldnt resist that one but it couldve been just a glich. Did you wait for the fuel to prime before hittin the start button???

Yeah I let it prime before I hit the ignition. And shut your blasphemous mouth, B.E.T. ;-)

I kinda figured the same thing, glitch and all, figured I'd get some input first.

As for never doing it in the shop...amen brother...lost count how many times that one happened to me before lol. I haven't checked in about issues or recalls yet, I should look into that one in the morning, good thinkin.

Thanks for the input, fellas!

I would at least bring it up with the dealer if you take it in for service soon, that way you have a formal complaint history in case it becomes something serious that doesn't fail until the bike is just out of warranty. Sometimes the reps will goodwill repairs if you have a complaint history on an intermittent issue that couldn't be replicated in the shop until it was out of warranty.

The FI light sometimes indicates something other than Fuel Injection, too. Although there's not much else on the bike that goes wrong! But, think of the FI light as a 'Service Engine Soon' light in the car.

My Kwak Factory Service Manual for my model -- which at $80 paid for itself the first time I used it -- gives the magic decoding information on how that works.

Everything I own is in storage at the moment, but if I remember right, it makes you do something like: (dont quote me on this .. I am just wingin it here) ...

whenever the light stays on more that 3 seconds after starting , turn the bike off and then turn the ignition on/off three times in 5 seconds and hold down the left speedo RESET button at the same time, and a 3 digit code appears in the LCD readout in the speedo. That code will tell you whats triggering the error, i.e. #3 injector pulse error, low fuel pressure in fuelrail, clogged left side O2 sensor, etc.

But again, you need to figure out how to display the code, and then write it down for the shop. Stop by the dealer and have the service manager write down the sequence you follow to display the code for your model. Then you can do it yourself the next time it happens. And they will tell you what the number means, and HOW MUCH they will charge you to make your troubles all better. Thats the icky part, isnt it?

Or--- buy the manual and replace that injector (or whatever) yourself!! Plenty of guys here can help you do that kind of stuff if your work is not covered under warranty. Just ask. Most of us are very happy to help !!

Bring it in and let the dealer fix it for free..
Oops. Missed that part. Extended warranty is the best way.

But still, go by the dealership sometime and have them show you how to get the code , so when/if this intermittent error occurs again you can write it down and give it to the service dept.

That way you can present it to the service guys with knowledge of what is happening. Then you are not at their mercy ... and you could be preventing some future system failure far from home that could have been avoided.

Oooo, codes and deciphering, I feel like James Bond ;-)

I've got a 5 year warranty so thankfully I don't hafta worry much about that going out, but yeah the code thing definitely sounds like it's worth looking into.

It hasn't done it before or since so it could have just been a fluke, but I'll haul my ass down to the shop ASAP to see what they think.

Thanks for the feedback and help everyone, most appreciated!

The gsxr600 did that to me one time and i just shut it off and it has happened a few times since. Nothing to worry about though it is a kawi and there is no finer bike. The two kawis in my garage have thousands of miles on them ( 07zx14 almost 37,000 and 97zx9r with 91,000) and the only time i was have been left on the side of the road is when i push the limit on fuel. Unless you ride like Sparkmaker who killed his 08zx6.

Like Zone said, the FI light isn't just a fuel injector light, it's a service engine light and could mean a ton of different stuff. Mine would turn on when i'm at high speeds and hit a bump or something in the road and my tire would loose grip and screw with my traction control. And it would only turn off if I shut the bike off and turn it back on. IF it's not a reoccuring problem and the bike is running good then I wouldn't take it to heart. But you might as well have them run a diagnostic since it's a freebie.

Hey the FI light on in the begining and the bike revving up, would probably be one of the butterflies sticking in your throttle body if I'm not mistaken the inital start up strokes the exhaust and intake butterflies and primes the fuel lines. Kinda like a self check if something checks out wrong then it throws a light then a code after a time of being bad. So seems like a stuck butterfly that you freed up by reving it then shutting it off cleared the light upon the next self check.:cheers
