I believe the plate is supposed to go back to the DMV. I would call the insurance company about the refund to find out if there is one.

Laws vary by state. Here in CA, the plate stays with the vehicle unless its presonalized, no refunds there as registration is good until the year is up. Call your insurance agent and cancel the policy (unless you got a new bike) and you should get a refund of the unused time on the policy.

i think the dmv here gives a prorated refund of the registration fee. also the insurance will refund your insurance (prorated, of course.)
