Im not gonna be a newbie and right a stupid question like should i get a yamaha r6 or something like that. Let me explain my story. First of I am typically obsessed with sportbikes well bikes in general. I just turned 15 in august. I live in Maryland. I am 6'3 180 pounds roughlyI can do the MSF at 15 and 9 months and get my license by 16 and 3 months. I know its a full year and all but i cant help but askin. I might be 6'4 or even 6'5 at the most by that time. The only riding under my belt I have is that i rode a 200cc bike in India everytime I go there. Cops arent strict. People say, if you can ride in india, you can ride anywhere. There is so much traffic so much going fast and slowing down that its pretty ridiculous. I know for sure that kawasaki 250r wont fit me. i felt cramped on that 200cc bike, I am a daddy long legs. I want to get a bike that I wont have to sell after a year or 2 due to the fact that I am experienced enough and I am just too tall to fit on it. So can i get some suggestions. I have been all over forums and other things for the past month. I wont be going past 600cc, ever i dont think. 600cc is enough. I dont want a b***** 2 stroke bike because i dont see the point in buying a 650 sv and then moving to a 600cc. There is no thrill in moving up and i dont want to spend that kind of money on a bike i wont keep that long. So should i buy a 500cc bike like a gs500f for about 2k and sell it and buy a cbr or a gixxer or somethin like that? Or for money reasons just go with the cbr600rr because i heard its the lightest of them all and easiest for the street. I dont want to start a blitzkrieg of flamethrowers. I am a responsible guy and the riding expierenced i had, i guess i was responsible (India? people dont care if ur on a bike almost about to hit them. they will cross that rode! No traffic lights and lots of big trucks there.) So tell me your thoughts guys. Its my first post and i hope to gain knowledge of the novice/sport bike industry.
P.s. I am lookin for a sport/supersport bike look. I really dont want a cruiser or anythin else. Thanks:fiddy

So basically, you're saying you think you're going to get a bike,it'll last you till you're done with riding, around the age 60?
Never have to move up? Never have to get another bike?

From what im getting from the way you've constructed your post is that you're looking for reassurance that you should get a 600 supersport.

I'd still suggest the 650.But hey,you don't want to get one then 'move up' from an sv650. Obviously since it's not supersport,it's not powerful.

No. You knew the answer before you posted the question. The 250r won't feel too small for you. There are a couple of guys on this forum that weigh 250+ and have gone on a couple of cross country trips with them. Your little 200cc bike in India isn't the same as a Ninja 250r, in size and power. If you don't like the 250r even after sitting on one, please please please go through my little thread about good first bikes and pick one that you do like.

So at the start of the post you said you weren't going to act stupid and ask if you should get a r6, then by the end of the post you're acting stupid and thinking of getting a 600cc bike. Congrats, in less than a paragraph you wen't from not trying to be stupid to full fledged retard.

/\ No need to make comments like that, though. He's just rationalizing. We've all done it. Try posting something helpful instead of just insulting him.

alright guys i read my post and i thought it was kinda stupid cause i was like making 2 different statements. I was actually leaning against buying a 500cc of craigslist or like ebay for cheap and then selling it 2 or 3 years later. then buying a real bike
and stay with that bike for a long time.

your story does not make sense, it all seems to be rationalizing into buying a SS bike.
First you Highlight your size like that makes a difference to the bike that is designed for a guy that is about 6 inches shorter then you and 30 pounds lighter.
second, you just turned 15, and you have all this Responsibility, RIGHT!!!
third, you contradict your first sentence about not wanting a R6 for first bike, but rather a CBR600RR.
FOurth, if you grow 2-4 more inches you are still going to look like a monkey fucking a football on any sportbike.
fiFth,
I dont want a b***** 2 stroke bike because i dont see the point in buying a 650 sv and then moving to a 600cc.
you have no clue what your are talking about here do you?

My friend rode a Ninja 250, put 10k+ miles on it and he is 6'5" and 250+lbs. The whole "I don't fit" arguement is a load of crap.

Learn to ride on a good beginner bike then test ride a bunch of bikes and buy what you want then. You may find out you like the torque and motor of a twin or triple. You may like comfy handle bars compared to clipons. Buying based off looks or specs is stupid.

Best thing to do is get a smaller, used bike like a 250 or GS500. One, just because to rode in India does not mean you are experienced in riding in the street. You said yourself there are no traffic lights or anything else there. A smaller bike will give you time to gain the street experience you need to be safe (for you and others on the road). Second, insurance on a SS for anyone under 21 is SUPER EXPENSIVE!!!! Do some research and get some insurance quotes and see for yourself. I have had younger customers tell me their insurance on their SS was over $3,000 a year.

< 6'2" @ 200lbs here on an EX250 and fit very comfortably. Some say the one piece seat of the older Ninja 250 makes it more comfortable for b***** riders as opposed to the 2 piece on many SS bikes and 08+ 250R.

4 months ago I tried doing the same rationalization you are doing regarding size, needing to eventually move up, etc. My recommendation: stick with what these guys are saying, you'll have more fun than you can imagine and have a much steeper learning curve than the beginner 600/liter guys. The absolute worst case scenario if you don't like the smaller cc bikes: you sell it for the same price you bought it and get you a "big-boys" bike so it can collect dust in the garage because it scares you senseless ;)

Wow just wow. I cant believe what I have just heard....

1. You make the too big argument
2. You just turned 15!!!
3. You think that riding in India means you got experience
4. You have yet to even acquire a license
5. You dont want a small bike because you dont want to have to sell it in a year...why? what is so hard about selling a motorcycle for you people.
6. Then you say that a 650 and a 600ss is a 2 stroke? And that there is no thrill in moving up?
7. You say you wont make an argument about getting a 600ss as a first bike and then you do!
8. Then say the sbr is the lightest and "easiest"? LOL
9. Then finally you say you are responsible...HA!

Those were all of the mistakes you made in this post. This exhausting list almost leads me to believe that you are a troll, but hearing you admit to your mistakes makes me think you are just a little confused about this whole thing. Sure you want to be the kid at school who's got the fast bike, but take a step back and examine the reality...

YOU'RE 15! How do you intend to afford a bike anyways? How about a cbr? Can you really dish out $4-6k on the bike + $300-$1000 in gear? Not even counting INSURANCE! Do me, you, and everyone else a favor on here please. Go to progressive.com and get a liability and full coverage quote for insurance and report back. Honestly. Spend the time and get a quote and tell us what it is and let that change your mind if you dont believe us. Im going to guess that when your 16 riding a cbr you have a 90% crash rate and will be paying in the $2,000 - $3,000 a year for insurance. So lets examine this a little further. The total operating cost should be between $6,000 -$10,000 for your first year of riding on that cbr. Can you afford that? You cant. I already know you cant. And if you can, your going to waste every penny in your piggy bank. Sure you could skimp on the bike, gear, and get a insurance policy under your parents. But is that the "responsible" thing to do that you say you have so much of. Its not.

Im not trying to discourage you from riding altogether because it is a wonderful thing. You just need to wise up a little. None of us want to see you in over your head which is why we are being ridiculasly hard on you. If your tough enough to live through SBN and have shown that you are truly here for advice then you will show your responsiblity.

Thanks for the tips and everything and from the rest of you guys. I take ur flames in a positive way. Lets end this on a good note. I will get a 250cc or a 500cc. But one question. Will the jump from a 250cc to a 600cc be a big one? I was planning on buying a 250cc/500cc at 16 then using it for 2/3 years and then selling it for a lil cheaper. Then buying another bike once im a more confident and safe rider. Good plan?:banana
