The DOT is completing a hiway extension on the main route back to the house, and put down a fresh layer of asphalt to tie in the off ramp that I use and the new extension. I rode on it coming home tonight, and could see the reflections of the cages in front of me in the road itself. They just finished the paving a few hours before I came through.
Traffic was heavy but I slowed down a bit just in case it was slick, but couldn't tell anything. I also didn't know if the reflections were caused by a thin oil layer, or just the smoothness (real word?) of the fresh road. I was a little nervous with a new rear tire (thanks to a screw in the old one) and wondered if anyone had any info, ie don't worry, avoid until the road weathers a little, or anything else. I also travel the same stretch in the early AM, where the temperatures here have been dropping below freezing. I have several alternate ways to work that are just as easy, I enjoy the higher speed limit rather than cutting through town.
Thanks for any info, Ken
