Ok, its a silly question, but I honestly don't know...

Lets say you're gonna buy a new sportbike from the dealership, and you want to pay cash. How do you actually carry through with the transaction?

Does cashier's check / money order count as "cash" ? Or do you bring a briefcase full of C-notes? I always feel "ill-at-ease" whenever I'm carrying more than a hundred dollars in my pocket... :dunno

(back story: my ex250 has been totaled, payout from insurance company should be coming in a week or 2, so I'm currently shopping for a new ride.... likely either a sv650sf or a ninja 650r)

I had someone bring me a 5 gallon water bottle that he said had several thousand dollars worth of quarters. I did ask him if he wouldn't mind taking it to the bank as I did not think the person that counted the cash drawer would much appreciate that.

When I bought my Hayabusa last year, I just wrote a personal check to the dealership. In my experience only private parties seem to require cashier's checks or the like.
+1 Dealers will take a personal check or debit card as long as you have ID and sufficient funds.

I had someone mail me a $6700 cashiers check from the Allied Bank of Ireland, it looked pretty good, even had a watermark, for a Toyota Truck that I wanted $2200 for. I could keep the change after I shipped it to England for him. I'm kind of surprised that there are no Toyota trucks between California and England. At least I got him to spend the time to make the check, buy an envelope and put $1.00 in postage on it.

Cashiers checks can be bogus. If it's a dealer, cash isn't a problem. If you are worried, bring some big friends or a gun. If it is private, do it at your bank and have them cut him a check, and he can cash it right there at the bank.

Private sales- $100s in a bank envelope. And bring a big friend- to help load, ya know?

Dealers are pretty flexible. Debit cards usually have limits, but most don't mind personal checks if they can call the bank at the time of sale.

If you're looking at a used 650R or SV, you shouldn't have more than 40 $100s. Not a visually impressive amount in an envelope.
