I just purchased my first bike. It is a 1997 gsx600f. For one, it has dual exhaust and header. All the pictures I see of new ones only have one pipe. Is this something someone has added? Another thing, how can I tell if anything else has been added or changed such as the sprockets. Is there someone who can tell me how many teeth are supposed to be on the factory sprockets. I know very little about bikes but hopefully my mechanic skills will help me figure it out.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'll tell you as much as I know without looking into my clymer manual (that i can't find.) Katanas were/are virtually the same from 88 til your model year, 1997. Then they changed to the way they look now.

Stock, our year(s) kats have dual exhaust. I also think the front sprocket size is 14 tooth. The rear is 45 tooth.

If you have any other questions I can try to answer them to the best of my knowledge...hopefully I can find my manual.

This microfiche may also prove helpful.
