So I did about 50 miles worth of Holy Hill twisties after work today before I headed out to church and I learned a couple valuable lessons but I'll present the lesson of the day:

So there's this hill that's probably about a 45 degree angle but it's only 15 feet or so high. I went up and down it a couple times and since it was on a straight I figure it'd be cool to hit it pretty fast and see what happens. Well here's what happens- at full throttle in second gear the bike just keeps going up when you get to the top and in effect I pulled a 9 O'clock wheelie. Kinda caught me by surprise but it was pretty freaking cool.

I also came around a corner only to find a dump truck taking his half literally out of the middle of the road- if I had been driving a car I would have crashed into him, luckily I just went beside him. I saw a ridiculous amount of people swerving over the double yellow in turns, luckily I didn't run into any.

I did come around a 180 turn (that I didn't know was 180 ;)) and ended up scraping the top of my boots as I was turning left and going uphill- that was pretty freaking cool.

Overall it was an awesome time and I only made a couple of mistakes, none too bad. I really need to focus on looking through the corner- I was getting very good at it but riding in a group makes you focus on the guy in front of you instead of through a corner, so basically I blame Scott for my riding skills deteriorating.

Yea I blame Scott for making me ride better. He was one of the first to pull me aside and tell me what I was doing wrong and how to fix it. I also blame his bike, it speaks to mine and then my bike keeps asking for neon and a new pipe and such. They are both R6's but brothers from a different mother, that's for sure.

I know the jump you're talking about, it's on Hogsback Road...same thing happened to me when I tried it the first time years ago! Now try going the other way, jump DOWN it, just make sure you remember to brake for the turn...lol (and keep your weight on the back or you'll be landing head-first)

Can I come and bring my KTM? Any of you trying to follow me in a turn will die. lol Once the back end starts swinging around you won't know where to go! :headbang

Tip: Don't watch me... :alky

When I first read this, I wasn't sure if Rob was talking about the jump on Hogsback Road or another street in the area. I like taking that "jump" with a little bit of speed because it makes you feel like your weightless and or floating. Not to mention all of the areas on one side of that "jump" where the road is all rashed up from all of the cars taking it and then bottoming out.

If you like that feeling then start doing wheelies :)

I don't think it was Hogsback, though I could be wrong- I know I was on a road called st. augustine quite a bit which was also the rural road- taking a right off of that at one point and you're just about at that hill I'm talking about.

It could be the right one because Artismo was right about there being a right hand turn right after the hill coming from the other way.

sounds like fun.. I also run into the "watching the rider in front of me" thing when in group rides.. I find it hard to take sweeping corners when I ride in groups..

99% sure it's Hogsback. Just don't go off-roading...it's a LONG way to the bottom of that hill. It's all nice around Holy Hill but way to many "Sunday drivers" for me. If it's not the Harley type going real slow , then it's the "getting in touch with nature" drivers that drive me nuts.(the kind that drive under the speed limit and look at all the trees as they drive) I find it's more fun to go out and find some real back roads way off the beaten path.

hmm... one of you guys want to let me know when you're heading out to Holy hill? I just scoped out some roads SW of Waukesha, and I'm looking to find some good stuff in Holy Hill.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours :D

As some of you know ,I live real close to Holy Hill and tend to ride through there alot. Around noon on weekdays seems the best time to run through there , as is early Sat morning (between 6-9am). Other wise I'd say hold off for a day that isn't the typical ride day , ie overcast , windy , or something along that line. Other then that all I can say is go get lost in the country. When I first got my car (1985) I would put a map in the glove box and go out and get lost , then try and find my way home. I found a few good spots in this part of the state to "play" in.

I have the worst direction sense out of anyone I've ever met. I'd say I'm in the bottom .5% of the population when it comes to figuring out where I am or where I need to go.

I never know what direction I'm going unless the sun is out (then sometimes I forget which direction it rises from) and if I have to decided which way to go it will always be the wrong way. They made GPS for people like me- and I have yet to buy one- any suggestions on a good model- I think it'd be helpful for me when we go out and ride.

For example- the rides that Jer and Scott lead that I've been on- I have no idea where they are besides west, how to do them again and how we ended up where we got to. That's why I'm not the leader :D At least I can find my way to work and back without asking for directions...
