Hey, I just bought a 2007 Ninja 500r about a week ago and I bought it through a dealership and supposedly they made sure everything was mechanically sound with it before they sold it to me. But, everytime I accelerate even at all I can hear what I can only describe as a hollow sound. Almost like the engine noise is running up through the gas tank or something. But I don't think that's what it is because it's not constant. If it was just the gas tank I would always hear the noise but it's very hard to describe.

Please, if anyone knows if this is normal or if I should have it checked out let me know. If no one has a clue what's wrong then I could probably get a decent sound clip up on what noise I'm hearing.

A belated welcome to you sir. I must have missed your first post. I hate to see a legit question languish.

That's tough. Maybe the exhaust is touching the frame at times and reverberating or something like that. I would check engine and exhaust mounts. Assuming it's an engine-speed vibration/noise.

Is it running fine otherwise?

A sound clip, if you can catch it, would probably be very helpful.

Yes, other than the odd noise it seems to be running very smooth. it does seem possible that it's coming from the exhaust. It seems the more the RPM the more the noise is. I'll try to get a decent sound clip on here sometime within the week. Thanks for the reply.

hey George how are ya ,i too have a ninja and one afternoon iwas out in the garage(where i spend as much time as i can)and i cranked the bike up to hear the engine purr and all of a sudden i hear what sounded like more of a haunting sound,thinking something was wrong with the bike i imediately shut it down. thought to myself, what the heck was that.with a slite hesitation i started it back up and gave it a couple of revs, again theres that sound , even louder this time, what the,without any hesitation i hit the kill switch.this time it sounded as if the motor was going to fall out of the frame. as i reach over to start the bike again ,that noise and there it is again,COMMING DEAR(crap) well sorry i couldnt be more help but atleast i know my engines ok.you might check your air filter ,maybey they forgot to put one in there.nothin else youll get to spend more time in the garage.
