Eh...you'll still have several months of riding left before it really gets cold. Just heal up good and don't rush getting back on...

She went into the curve to hot, ran wide, and lowsided in the grass.

Er...this is what I gathered immediately following the accident.

Thanks for sharing the pics Michele.
Just take it easy and heal up. You have plenty of time. You guys are always welcome to join us at the meetups even if you have to drive up for now. Not sure driving that far to eat with a bunch of idiots is your thing but hey.
I'm just thinking of you chasing that 3 year old around with a busted arm. Sheesh, I have a hard enough time with two good ones.
Glad you are in good spirits and don't let it get ya down.Trust me, I am the Crash Master!!!

yeh, what tragik said.....and instead of looking into/through the curve i was looking off to the right side of the road....and well, you know what that does...lol...lands right where u were looking....what a dumb ass!!! bet i never do that again...lol...and u know, i really didn't think i'd care too much about the bike...wrong...my poor bike...rob will have to tell ya'll what all is wrong with it...i wasn't able to get up to go look at it...but i was looking for it brfore i could get my helmet off to make sure it didn't hit a tree...

AND i was wearing FULL GEAR, BABY! got a little bit of mesh burn on my left knee..but other than that not a scratch....obviously that scapula took most of the force when i hit grnd...dr. said i was lucky to break only that bone and have no other injuries...and said that it is a very uncommon occurence to break a scapula at all....(i broke it in 3)

kazlab...my mom wil be here next week she was already planning a visit after she moves but i called and told her last night she needs to move after her visit to us...

surprisingly i'm not in too much pain this mornin....but i was hurtin like hell last night for a minute....i got up and out from under the nice warm covers and started shivering....THAT was really not nice..lol

i don't THINK i'll have too much trouble...i'm pretty tough and independent...not afraid to ask for help, either...but def prefer to not have to have ppl wait on me like servants...besides my kids are pretty good...robt will be working in the mornings and i think we can manage not to kill each other b4 mom comes to town...and my 5 yo can help me go to the bathroom and take a shower if i need to during the day...she loves to be helpful...the 12 yo can help with the rest...my kids are great! they were very worried about me when they came to the hospital...

Oh my God! What happened?! Your hubby PM'd me yesterday saying that you guyz might head out to Wilmington, but I never got a call from anyone. Where did you guyz end up going? I saw on the side of the ambulance Randolph County, so I guess you guyz ended up there. How fast were you going into the curve? Does look kinda sharp from the pics. Anyhow, i'm glad that you're relatively ok! The docs are right, it is unusual to fracture the scapula, it usually requires significant amount of direct trauma, so I'm guessin that was the initial contact point unless u did some tumbling. Very glad that you had on ur gear as well. Hope your recovery is a quick one and again, I'm very sorry about ur mishap!

As far as I could tell on the bike, damage wasn't terrible. Here's the list:

All damage is on left side only as far as i remember.

Minor crack in fairing around the headlight.
Bent Fairing Stay
Broken turn signal
scratched up engine cover
minor scratches on side fairing
LOOKED like the left rearset, and shift lever was bent
passenger grab rail bent
broke mirror
THINK that's all.

Your accident is almost the exact copy of what happened to me 2 weeks ago. I took a curve on Davis drive a little hot, everything happened so fast that it is just a dim blur to me now, my rear tire fishtailed I dont know if I hit gravel or what, all I really remember was looking at the white line on the side of the road and going over it, which in retrospect was a BIG mistake, should have been looking into the turn. Next thing I know I'm highsided into a ditch and rolling a couple of times. Like you, I landed on, and busted my scapula. Hurts doesn't it? You cant lift your arm can you? If it is any consolation, I am now able to lift my arm up and can even stretch in the morning, so I hope your recovery is as quick as mine has been. It will probably be more rapid since you didnt land on your shoulder with the full force of 200 pounds like I did. If you haven't set on a Orthopedic doctor yet, I suggest Dr Hardy Singh and Southeastern Orthopedics @ 919-256-1511, he is a shoulder injury specialist and he has been very thorough with me and has treated me very well. Here's what you can expect so far based on my experience. Your doctor will probably want to have a cat scan on your shoulder asap in order to make the determination whether you will need surgery on that shoulder. If the fracture is not serious, your arm will be in a sling for 2-3 weeks and then the doctor will want you to take it out and start rehabilitation exercises on it. This will need to begin immediately to prevent further muscle deterioration on that shoulder which could have life long ramifications (arthritis, stiffness) if your are not diligent.

Anyway, good luck on your recovery. I hope we both become better riders as a result of our experience.
