Well just got home from another 750 mile weekend left town with a decent amount of tread on my tires. Came home with a chicken strip on the rear tire & it needing to be replaced. Filled the air pressure in the tires to 38 front & 42 rear. I'm currently running regular Diablos. From what I've been told they are in the middle between a sport touring tire and a sport tire. I was hoping for more mileage out of them but didnt get any :( At least I got a good deal on them. All of my friends that I ride with are getting around 5,000 to 6,800 miles out of their tires. I'm the lone one who keeps supporting the tire companies. I usually get around 2,000 to 2,400 miles out of a set of tires. I bought the bike for carving up the corners and enjoy doing that quite a bit. My only problem is getting to and from some of the mountains can put some mileage on the tires. I also take the bike out of town quite a bit and end up putting on highway miles. Currently I have about 14,000 miles on the bike.

What are your suggestions for better milage out of tires? My friends are all running Michelin 2CT's and I usually run Bridgestone BT-016's.

With the current riding I do I'm thinking about getting a no mar tire changer. No-Mar: Scratch Proof Wheel Locking System, Beats Coats 220 - Safe for Carbon Fiber Wheels.

Its expensive but will pay for itself after about 18 sets of tires. With the way I've been riding that wont take too long to pay for itself. If I get a decent amount of riding in during the summer months I'll go through 4 sets of tires. Living where I'm at the winter months can be a little pain to ride through but nothing an extra layer cant overcome. 50's mostly during the days throughout winter. I usually ride over to the beach, 120 miles one way, to escape the cold and enjoy the 68-70 degree days over there.

Im sure its not the reason but you make it sound like you replaced the tire because it had chicken strips...

Hopefully thats not the case.

Look into a STing tire such as the PR2 or the BT(not sure which model, the triple compound one). You can expect minimum 6-8k miles on them.

I have the PR2's and Im on my second set. I love them. Right now Im on like 8k miles and they still look brand new. Im expecting around 12k miles until they start going.

If you're only getting 2000 miles out of a set of tires, you must be riding incredibly aggressively, in which case you probably don't want the risk of a harder compound tire.

I was getting anywhere from 8 to 10K out of a set of 2CTs (but at 10K, the cords were showing, or damn near so). I just put a set of Road 2s on and, so far, they feel great.

As for changing tires, you can do it with 3 large screwdrivers if you know what you're doing, but I'm sure it's easier with the tire changer. BY all means, do it yourself, once you know how, it takes no time at all and you save money. Win/win.

I have 14,000 miles on a pair of Pilot Road 2cts.

The Power 2cts are retardedly soft for the street. For what I do with the Speed Triple the roads are a far better choice. Just need Michelin to make them in 190/55 now. I'm doing a ton of suspension work this year, I want the right tire for my 6" rear wheel.

Are these highways concrete? Concrete highways will eat a SS tire.

I killed a set of bt-16's in about 2200 miles. 2 sets actually.

Take offs I kill them in about 1600-1800 miles.

Shit happens, I;d rather have sticky rubber.

just had a Pilot Road (original) last almost 8k miles in two months (CA->IN and back).

There are things that wear the tire faster, see if you're doing any of these things:
- lots of engine braking
- riding in the middle of the lane (rougher and less tire rubber laid down)
- concrete highways, especially at speed

If you just did a 700 mile trip and your tires last 2k, then just changing one thing should give visible results at the end of the trip.

Your mileage per tire is a little low, but it's not that far from average. Take a good look at the tires your friends are using, I doubt they're super sports.

Have you gotten your suspension set up right for you? That could play a role in tire wear.

You didn't include some helpful info that people outside of California might not know: summer months in Fresno/Bako are screaming HOT. Not muggy back East hot, but 100F hot for too much of the day and only 70F something for a nightly low. You're cookin' tires all summer long on some ragged concrete highways. So yeah, I would think that leads to short tire life on modern sticky tires.
