I could really use some heads up help with this purchase. I just passed the MSF course with flying colors, have had experience borrowing friends bikes with learners permit, but this will be the first bike I own. Of these three, which seems like a good deal. What should I look out for? Thanks in advance :fiddy :fiddy

1.)
2005 Suzuki SV650 with only 2000 miles was inspected by shop in mid September (have papers) and is in perfect condition.

Comes with added 4 year warranty (~$700) and another $700 worth of extras (1 soft bag, 1 tank bag, 1 wheel lock, Helmut, Waterproof Cover, 2 pairs of gloves, manual, and padded jacket (if it fits). $5250

2.)
2004 Yellow Suzuki SV650. Many extras including M4 exhaust, Techlusion TFI, K&N air filter, SV1000 Snorkel, frame and swingarm sliders, Corbin seats front and back, Racetech front springs and emulators, rear 2004 GSXR1000 shock, newer Bridegestone BT-014 tires. Runs and rides better than new. Original owner, clear title. I have most of the stock parts for it still. Well cared for, never been down, never raced. Must sell due to new addition in family. About 5400 miles. $4975.00 obo.

3.)
or Sale: Blue 2003 Suzuki SV650 Naked Motorcycle, 6,900 miles.
Extras: Extended Warranty, Unlimited Miles until 09-27-08. ($25.00 xfr fee)
Suzuki service manual.
Terms: Cash, I have title in hand
Bike rides and runs great, no sense in me keeping it if I'm not gonna ride it. Better that someone puts it to use. Maintenance up-to-date, I have copies. $4400

They all seem expensive to me but I guess that's what you get for living in California. I wouldn't get the second one with all the mods personally, you probably want to do that stuff yourself (it's fun!). The springs have to be correct for your weight, and lots of people install the emulators incorrectly (RT's instructions suck). I think I'd just get the cheapest one.

Look for signs of it being crashed obviously, other than that they're pretty reliable.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I can't seem to find ones any cheaper that don't either have 30k+ miles or are salvage titles. I was eyeballing the cheap blue one too, even though a black frame and that headlight shroud are cool looking.
I'll call up the guy today. Hope it goes well.

Unless the mods on a bike are exactly what you would do yourself, don't pay extra for them. Buying a bike as close to stock as you can get is usually a better deal as most sellers tend to over-price the extras. The extended warranty isn't a bad security blanket. Check kbb and nada for pricing trends. Somewhere between kbb retail and trade-in is usually about right for buying from a private party.

Agree about the black frame, but is it worth the extra $$ in these cases. The bikini fairings run $100-150 new and are really easy to install.

None of those are good deals, and no. 2 sounds like the worst.

For those prices, why not just skip them and buy a new one? 4 months ago my local dealer was selling new 05's for $6175 OTD.
How much does your dealer charge to ship to California, and then make it legal emissions?? Ninja 250rs are 3800 OTD here in Rip-Off-ornia. New SVs I'm sure are over 6500 OTD. Sales tax is 8.25% and dealer docs and junk are another 200 or so.

This is as close as new as I can get here... might go for it:

Or I might just wait for a deal. But they don't exist here for some reason. I think it's because of Ahnold :)

I couldn't tell you for sure that they are the best, they're the only ones I have used on the SV. I think that their placement and length is better than some other frame sliders, and they are not particularly expensive. Most everyone on SVRider has them basically because the guy who makes them is a member. Personally they've saved me some damage. You don't need swingarm sliders any more than you do frame sliders, but they'll protect your swingarm, and you can use them as spools for a rear stand. To install the frame sliders you just need large sockets, socket extensions, and a torque wrench too ideally. The dealer should be able to do it but it's easy enough either way.

I'm in so cal and OTD on an '05 is about 5950 in more than one spot. not bad in my mind. you might talk them down an little more too.
They already whined and moaned that they weren't making any money off of me, and then proceeded to try to sell me a Field Sheer (which looked like crap quality IMO). This is the best deal I've seen for a while, and since I've heard good things about their mech shop, and they are close to where I live, I think it's a fine deal.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm getting excited. But it's breaking my bank account. :)

Now I'm looking for a matching helm. Shoei's royal blue is pretty close. Anyone have good things to say about their X-11 or their RF-1000 or the TZ-R??

Personally, I would take either bike #3 or #1.

#1 has the lowest mileage and most extras for the money. Offer him $5k.

#3 second lowest mileage. Offer him $4k

#2 has been modified and speaking from personal experience, I will never trust another bike I didn't modify myself (or professionally modified).

Bike #1 had other people interested, so he wouldn't go down in price at all, even after I told him what I could get a new one for. 3 was already sold. I might here back from 3 if his buyer couldn't come up with the money. Again, I've already put money down on the new bike, so I'm pretty committed to a new one.
Thanks for the response. I've wanted a bike for 8.5 years, and it's finally happening.

In your opinion, are these the best?
I don't have any personal experience with those sliders, or any others, but have read that they're better than any others.

Apparently, the Suzuki OEM sliders brackets are bad about breaking. Not good.

It also seems like the motosliders are the only ones that protect the radiator and tank in most lowsides/drops. These things can be worth they're weight in gold in even the most minor accidents. Since this is your first bike, order them now before you even get the bike. You won't be sorry.

Again, I have NO personal experience with ANY sliders, but have read a lot about them for the SV.
