Hi all. I have a 95 RF900 that isn't starting. It bump starts easily, and I've measured 15.3 volts back at the battery at idle. Took it to a mechanic who says it's the regulator. The problem is that the OEM replacement is $180, and the thing is buried in the alternator (i.e. pricey to have the mechanic fix). I'm wondering if there would be any issues with installing an aftermarket external regulator (as used in other bikes) in line between the alternator and the battery rather than digging into and replacing the one in the alternator? If this won't work (and pardon my ignorance if it's obvious this won't work), has any one used an aftermarket part designed for inside the regulator (these start at about $80 it seems)?
Much obliged for any help,
Dan
