I'm in need of help from someone mechanically inclined with diesel engines! I'm picking up my first diesel & first ford truck this weekend. I'm looking for a hand from someone mechanically inclined with diesel trucks. The truck is an 03 F250, 7.3, 4 door, lariat with 150k miles. Can anyone PLEASE PM me their phone number, so I can call when I get to the truck & schedule a time & place to meet up to go over the truck, to look for any problems. If I can't find someone to help I'm going to be stuck going to a dealership & I'm sure that will be costly.

Thanks!

The big things to look for are suspension parts, transmission, and make sure it pulls through all gears with out hesitation. Those are the parts that are tell tell signs of weather or not the truck was taken care of. Ask the seller if he can make sure he doesnt start the truck until you get there. Look for white smoke on the start up or while driving when you punch it. For the most part diesel last a long time. Its the electronics, injection pumps, injectors that go bad and leave you with a costly repairs. I dont know alot about the Ford's mostly know about the GM's old 6.5l diesels.

If you find an 2003 7.3L then your getting the last year that ford made that badass motor. As long as it isnt the 2003 6.0L then youll be fine check the fuel filter and the oil make sure it is clean but not too clean and if it has had a "chip" or a programmer then you may want to shy away unless its a manual tranny.
