Obviously from all of my posts, I am a n00b. Here's another question. I'll be riding my bike to and from the University of Houston this fall, and I'm curious on what I should do with my helmet? I don't want to really take it to my classes with me, because I'm already carrying enough crap (16 hours this fall folks). What do you all do with your helmets?

**I was considering on buying a scooter once, just because there was a storage compartment where I could lock my helmet in. Dumb reason to buy a 250cc scooter, but it seemed like an ok thought at the time :p

Some bikes have a helmet hook under the seat. You put the D rings through the hook and close the seat on top of the strap, which leaves the helmet hanging off the side of your bike. Of course if your campus isn't particularly safe somebody could cut the helmet strap and walk away with your helmet. Another safer option is to take a chain lock, put it through the helmet's chin bar, through the steering stem, and leave the helmet sitting on your gas tank. I do hope you'll be wearing more gear than just a helmet though......

I ride to class sometimes also. I have a 1/2" cable that I put through the sleeves of my jacket and through the chin bar of my helmet. I just put the cable over the seat and through the back wheel, with the jacket on the seat and the helmet resting up against the bike on the right side.

Oh I'll definatly be wearing more than a helmet. After asking n the forums, I was told there are leather pants that fit over my jeans (but do they fit over shorts comfortably?). Also I'll have gloves and a nice jacket. I just dont want to sweat really bad riding to school, because Houston is soooo humid. plus I figured I could fold my clothes in my locker, but a helmet wouldn't fit.

Usually overpants are textiles, not leather. They'll fit over shorts just as comfortably as jeans. If you're really worried about heat you can look for some overpants with mesh panels, like the Firstgear HT Air. But, mesh isn't as protective as cordura, which isn't as protective as leather.

I know you said you didn't want to, but I also would just carry my helmet with me.

Well, today was the first day I took my bike to University of Central Florida. I carried my helmet and jacket around campus. Wasnt that bad, just a lot of people looking at you. Well, this is what I am gonna do from next time. Park it outside UCF's gym and put all that stuff in the locker(theyre pretty big) and walk to my classes. For some reason I just cannot leave my bike like that. All the time , I was thinking about the bike being tampered, or stolen.LOL.. Im driving the car from next time.. hell no ! Not gonna be one of those cages, but maybe untill I get the scorpio alarm system. :)
