Hey guys I have been looking for a new bike. I have found this 2002 Honda CBR F4i. I feel it is a good deal but last time I thought I was getting a good deal I was informed I was not so I wanted to check and see what everyone thinks. Here is all the info:

11,185 miles
400 miles since oil/filter change
Comes with new Dunlop Qualifiers
Erion slip on pipe (stock pipe is included too)
almost new DP-Brakes HH front pads
1 year old battery
Super clean, well maintained, runs great
400 miles on new Dunlop Qualifier tires
Honda Red

I am going to offer $3,000 his asking price is $3,600. Do you think $3,000 is a good deal? I am going to look at it in person today but with the pictures it looks very clean and well taken care of.

11,000 is nothing. The bikes barely been ridden. If any thing I would be more nervous that a 7 year old bike has 11,000 miles than it would if it had 40k.

When you get a bike that is ridden 1,500 miles a year you generally have a owner that doesn't know jack shit about taking care of a motorcycle. Was it a track bike or something?

3000 would be a fair deal to both buyer and seller if its been taken care of. You can allways look around more though. But just keep inmind when its all said and done. After 3 years and 20k does it really matter you payed + or - 500 bucks lol.

For a '02 that is not a lot of miles. Hell, 11k isn't much for a newer bike depending on the up keep. I do agree that there are MANY bikes out there right now.
+100

11k miles is nothing, especially for an '02. Thats like 1,500 miles a YEAR if you divided it out. I do that much in a MONTH, and I even cage it to work every day...

For its age, miles are negligible in that deal. Depends way more on how its been kept up, and what shape its in.

In April, I sold my '03 600RR for $4750 with 18,000 miles. Thats because it was a hair under showroom condition.

Dude, thats a lot of miles
:lao Do you ride a hundred miles a year or are you one of those guys that just rides to bike nights with a blinged out bike?

Get out of here.

OP, if the bike is super clean, then you honestly may be wasting his time by going out and flashing six hundred below his asking price. Unless he stated interest in negotiating, I'd bring some more cash, because $3600 isn't a bad deal if the bike is as said.

The lot of miles was relating to amount of inventory out there, I saw a Ducati ST come into a dealer yesterday an 04 that 1500 miles on it, the point is take your time.

And to all the 22 year olds saying a I dont ride a lot, lol I had ridden probably 30,000 miles when you werent even an IDEA. I also have multiple bikes so sharing the time on all of them is tough.

If anyone tells you that 11k miles is too many, they don't know shit about sportbikes.

Yes, for $3k that would be a good buy, assuming it has not been down.

U R MISSING THE POINT>>>>>no 11,000 is not a lot, in the grand scheme of things, I am trying to help the kid, there are so many bikes out there right now, I bet he can find the exact same bike with 4500 on it....its about the amount of INVENTORY! (he highlights)

Dude, 11K miles is nothing, that's just broke in lol

EDIT: I see what you're getting at now, but if it were me personaly, I'd just go ahead and grab the one he is looking at because 11K is next to nothing in my book.

The F4i is basically bulletproof...some guy at the cbr forums has over 200 thousand on his.Its a good deal at 3 grand...me personally I would look for a later model..but depends on your budget.
What did they change between the years?

I'd be more worried about the 04 with 1500 miles.

That bike has been used so little that every seal and gasket on it is probably crap.

2000 miles a year is enough to at least flex the rubber and keep the bearing greases from turning to glue.

Well I just got back from looking at the bike. Another person was looking at it today and ended up buying it before I got there. It was so very clean and awesome condition.

Anyway, where are you seeing these abundance in bikes? I have been looking for about a month and a half and I dont see more than maybe 1 or 2 new bikes a day. But again maybe I am looking in the wrong places. I am mainly using craigslist. Anything can help I am looking at the Honda's and Suzuki's mainly.

If you like naked bikes, you can find SV's and Bandit's all day for under $3,000. I got my Bandit for $2,500 with 2,400 miles on it. It was in storage for years in a climate controlled basement and was on the centerstand so the tires are even in great condition (flamesuit on), so long it actually rusted the gas tank from trapped condensation, and of course the carbs were gummed. The previous owner bought a brand new suzuki tank and had the carbs cleaned and now I'm basically riding a 10 year old brand new bike.

But beware, not alot of people are going to spend that much money restoring the bike back to brand new. Also I see SV650's all day for under $3,000 in very nice condition. And I live in the country side so you have more variety up for grabs in your area.

But don't worry if a bike has upwards of 20,000 miles, if it has been taken care of, then it is almost always in better condition than that '02 R6 with less than 3,000 miles on it.

Wish you the best and let us know what you find!!

I understand what ARRA is saying here, for the same price you could probably get a bike with 4,000 miles.

however, F4i's and CBR's in general have a rep for lasting a loooooonnnnng time. its really up to you, that bike probably still has a lot left, probably runs like the day it was bought.

I paid $3000 for my 2001 F4i with 14k miles. It has an 04 engine with only 5k and some mods. Also a big caveat is I have a salvage title. Looking back now, if I would've known what I know now, I would've never paid this much for my bike. It has been a great blessing in disguise because I have done 6 repairs by myself already and learned a great deal. The bottom line is--what is the bike worth to YOU?
