I am thinking about picking up a camera in the near future to mount on my bike and record while I ride. Now I plan to use the camera just to record while iam riding and not for vlogging or putting in my helemt. The main reason I am thinking about getting a camera is incase I ever get into a accident, wreck, or worse case scenario die. I'll have it on video for court or what ever reason I might need it for.

So anyways I was down at cycle gear yesterday and saw the Go pro camera. Now there a few things I like and doin't like about the camera

Pros:
It's small and light weight
Easy to use
Comes in a proteective case
Comes with different mounts

Cons:
A little on the pricey side
Not sure about the video quality

So was woundering if anyone of you guys have used it before?
So far this is the only camera I have seen so if you guys know of any other good cameras to use let me know. I would like to keep the price under $200 or preferable $150 if I can.

You could get a Hero Wide off ebay for less than $150. Then batteries and a card for another $20.

There are other options, like the VHoldR, or a bullet cam setup. The new HD stuff looks great, but it's about twice the price.

I'm a new user of a GoPro wide and it's great except for battery life. I'm getting about an hour twenty on 1k mAh NiMh's.

It's easy to use, lot's of mounting options with the motorsports kit, and the video quality is pretty good. It doesn't do well in low-light scenarios.

Do lots of research and you'll be happy with whatever you end up with.

I found this with a quick search. Helmet Cam Reviews we test and review Viosport Hero GoPro Tachyon ATC5K Xtreem Recall helmet cameras helmetcams Discussion forum on helmet bullet cams mini micro and board cameras with side by side test video

Have we heard of the Go Pro?!?! :eek:nfloor

Here are your options....

1) Get it off ebay for close to $150 like suggested before

2) Get it at cyclegear when they send out more 20% off coupons (Thats what I did :) )

3) Find one somewhere else online.

The quality isnt really that bad, in fact its actually pretty good. In fact I just uploaded a video from mine, go watch it.

^How much are you paying for 4? They're about $10 around here which makes them way too expensive for me. I've been using rechargeables for so long now it pains me to buy reg ones.
$10-$15 depending where I go :(

I know it gets expensive real quick. So Ive started to only break out my Go Pro when I really wanna get some new footage or experiment with angles. Before I was just draining tons on batteries, but now its not all that bad. 2 packs of batteries now could last me anywhere from 4-6 months. But in Summer that was a completely different story :D

It sounds like you want to do a lot of recording with it. Going with the GoPro means you'll be dropping a lot of cash on batteries (unless you have any luck with rechargeables). In that sense, I'd look into something with an external recording device (buying a bullet camera and hooking it up to a recorder).

To be perfectly honest if you plan on ALWAYS recording EVERY ride you EVER go on, then buy the Go Pro HD. It comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts 8 hrs in HD mode and you could easily recharge it everyday. Otherwise you will be spending loads on batteries unless you buy some mediocre rechargeables. Unless your a tech guy, you could wire it into your battery.
