I haven't yet had the pleasure of being pulled over on my bike, but I am curious as to whether or not there is a "standard procedure" to follow when getting stopped. Kinda like when you get pulled over in a car, you should turn on the interior light, put the car in park...hazards on, hands on the steering wheel...no sudden moves...etc. What should I do to make the cop most comfortable and increase my chances of getting out of a ticket?

turn off the bike, put the kickstand down, take off your helmet and wait for the officer to tell you what to do next - be polite and couteous, know exactly where your registration, insurance card and driver's license are so you don't waste your time and his or hers...

this has gotten me out of more than a few tickets...

Agree on everything except taking off the helmet and would add stay seated. For me I would prefer you take off the helmet it makes it easy to talk and shows courtesy, but some officers don't like it when the rider removes the helmet b/c it is a very hard potential weapon in you hand.

sorry the stay seated was implied - and i usually hang my helmet on my mirror before the officer gets to me...

Put the bike in nuetral. Put the stand down and stay seated. Look relaxed and wait for the officer to approach....once they're about half way from their car to you, put the stand up, drop it into first and launch like a bat outta hell!

J/P....follow the advice above.....or mine, up to you :eek:nfloor.

Use your turn signals.

Stop the machine, and remove the key from the ignition.

Drop the key to the ground to your side.

Remove helmet.

Place helmet on one of the mirrors or place on the ground.

Remain on seat.

Face forward, no sudden movements.

Hands the side and away from jacket/pants pockets.

hrmm .. no I'll pass on that one. maybe if I'm at gun point and being arrested, but I'm not gonna throw my keys on the ground when I get pulled over.

I got pulled over once on my old bike, they were really cool. I knew I wasnt getting a ticket when they drove up next to me to hand me my license.

Eh, just want I heard from a friend who's a rider and an officer. I guess the logic being that any 600cc supersport would destroy any Ford Crown Vic' or Chevy Impala. I guess it's a form of submission or something.

I have to agree with you...I'm not throwing my keys on the ground. I got pulled over once, just turned off bike, opened helmet visor, put stand down. I think I took my glove off before he got to me so I could get my wallet out...didn't have registration on me though.

Come to a stop by doing a stoppie.
Drop the bike on its side and start walking towards officer.
Do not remove helmet and start yelling random things.
Officer will etheir proceed to fire... or get in his car and leave.
50/50 Chance why not? :lao
