I lived in Atlanta for 15 years. If you are into a corporate/party atmosphere, then this is the town for you.
If you want a nice place to raise a family, go elsewhere.
The roads to the north are excellent once you hit the mountains. That is one of the great aspects of living there. Just ride straight up 400.
The city life is hell though. Way too much traffic and crime. I finally had to move away because of those two reasons. Good luck.

Again, you can do like some friends of mine and live in one of the northern towns like Ellijay. Cartersville used to be the end of the line but somehow the city is creeping up there. 85 K will buy you a comfortable home in one of these areas but if you have to commute to anywhere near 285, the traffic will kill you. Literally.
