One word for you: P90X

I had never actually seen the infomercials or anything before I got it (bittorrent). My brother showed it to me. His roommate is a pitcher for LSU, and the baseball team is really into it.

There's a couple of guys at work doing it now, and let me tell you, it works. There's no gimmick though. Its just straight beating your ass.

I could just get off my ass and go running. I think quitting smoking at the beginning of the summer did me in. I was out of shape before but I wasn't huge.

Might be rolling like 1200 miles this weekend and I need leathers.....so its a little late for this year. But I have till next year to get my ass back down to respectable levels.

Diet.

You can work out and beat yourself up all you want at the gym, but without good eating habits and healthy food, you wont lose shit.

But I cant talk as I love fried food and ice cream haha.
Yeah, 3/4 of my diet is Hooters and Yeungling. I may want to do something about that.

When my wife was pregnant I gained some sympathy weight with her. I was also injured at the time, and a bunch of other excuses. All I know is that one day I looked down and thought, "what the hell?"

The thing that really kicked me over the edge though is when my wife and I were getting life insurance and the lady came by to give us a health check at home. She tried to draw blood from me and it was barely pumping out into the vial. Not good. I don't eat badly, don't smoke or drink, but I love soda, and hate water. But at that point I realized I should do something.

Here it is a year and a half later, I'm back down to 190lbs just 5lbs more than when I got married. I lost 25lbs total and feel terrific, there's no way I'm going to allow myself to gain that weight back.

that px90 is no joke, that is hard hard workout. It works really well if you stick with it. Diet be damned, you could eat mcdonalds day in and out and if you could do the p90 workout, you'd gain muscle and loose weight.

I'm 300lbs and I'd kill to loose it easily ... but make effort ... pshaw. I have a damned gym next to my couch, but what do I do every morning? not hit my gym that's for sure. Phew, all this typing ... i need a soda. hehe.

Seriously though, a little diet management and that p90x and you'll be really amazed how fast you loose weight.

Ya, I can vouch for p90x.
-But if you really do want to start it I'd advise doing a different "pre-p90x" workout before you actually start it. (if you really haven't been doing much)

-Maybe I'm just weak sauce, but I've been working out all summer and I hit a single p90x workout (arms and back) and I was sore for three days afterwords...

...hurts so good...:boink

Skip the P90X bullshit and stick with simple body weight exercises mixed with intense cardio.

Staying healthy is 80% what you eat and 20% working out.

Many people rush to go buy the newest workout "fad" and forget the basics.

Btw, if you go up to someone with your arms in an X and shout "P90X" you should be punched in the face....

lol "p90x ~rotates arms~ plus!"

-Ahh, but getting in shape is a completely different story... (as far as I know)

-Well one of the advantages of the program is that it tells you what to do when, so if you don't really know how to keep your workout out diverse or what not, it's alot easier...

P90x is intense. Definatley no joke...
Two things I didn't like were the length of the workouts (a little too long for me) and the guy (forget his name) gets annoying after you do the workouts a few times.

LOL

Its not like I'm that bad maybe 215, which is fat for me. In shape I run about 195 with a 32 inch waist. I just need to get moving and loose the spare tire....and stop drinking as much, yes.

Tripped, between quitting smoking and my wife being pregnant I'm now at critical mass. As soon as she jams this baby out (2 weeks or so) I'm gonna get serious. I mean it this time.
lol

Yeah, try to remember that when you are waking up to give the kid a bottle in the middle of the night. I've never seen a quiet Italian kid. You're screwed and you know it.:eek:nfloor

The quitting smoking is rediculous isn't it?

It's pretty crappy. My Dr. told me something that was encouraging though. In order to equal the health risk of smoking, you'd have to gain 80-90lbs of fat. That made the 15 I gained seem not so bad. I did it with Chantix, though, which helped.

Does anybody know WHY you gain weight when you quit?

I don't know just curious. Like outside of just having nothing to do when you don't smoke is it like you replace something else like a foodstuff in exchange for smoking?

No because nicotine is a mild stimulant so your metabolism slows when you quit. Oh, and the fact that withdrawl feels a lot like hunger so you eat everything that isn't pegged down for a while.

I was a 21 year smoker so I'm still wrestling with it.

Also, smoking is an appetite suppressant. To be clear, you gain weight when you quit smoking because you eat more. If you don't eat more, you won't gain weight. But shit, after I stopped smoking I couldn't control myself.

I was fine after a couple weeks. I'm not eating anymore then I did previously, but I'm still packing on weight.
