I was "surfing" the net last night and found a couple of models that are sold overseas and I have never seen here in the states.

The Yamaha XT660X dual purpose and the XT660R supermoto.

The Yamaha MT-03 (may be sold here in 2007).

The TDM 900 is a twin cyclinder that is looks kind of like a Fazer. I found an obscure rider review from Denmark (I think). The report stated that the bike got [email protected] and [email protected]

Another company here in the United States is converting Kawaski KLR650's to diesel for the USMC and are preparing to sell a street version for $19,000.00. Their calling it the "Bulldog" and it gets 102 mpg. At $19,000.00, the price is way out of line, they sell the bike for a profit to the military for about $5700.00 with the diesel conversion, so a more reasonable price would be less than $7,000.00.

So I see a potential for the TDM 900 to be sold here and world wide as a gas and diesel model. I would think that the diesel would acheive between [email protected], and [email protected] With a 6 gal tank range would be over 600 miles, a week ot two of commuting to work, or a real nice uninterupted ride searching for a filling station.

I like variety and wish we hade more choices here in the United States. If you feel the same way let the manufactures know it. Let me know too.

I'd ride a diesel providing the mileage was impressive and the rideability was good. I don't want a Vespa 150 just because it gets 90 mpg and I won't ride a diesel if the thing isn't fun to ride.

Isn't there a company out there producing or soon to be producing a diesel sport bike? I think diesel would be awesome in a bike. All the magazines always talk about how they love v-twin torque, as it hits down low. Imagine having maximum torque on our bikes at like 4000rpm, Toodling around town would be really zippy when you hit the throttle. I found the link http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2005/02/25/thunder-star-1200-diesel-by-star-twin/

120hp and 250ft-lbs at 5500rpm!!!! in a 450lb bike.

The tedium was sold in the states in the early 90s. It did not sell well. Do not expect Yamaha to make the same mistake twice.

As for more choices in the states, there are only a few bikes I would like to see sold here. I think I could count them all on one hand, minus a finger. Between Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Aprila, and the big three, I have plenty of choices.

As for diesel bikes, I would like it, only if it performed on par with a comparable sized gas powered bike. I do not ride motorcycles to save on gas. I ride because I enjoy the experience of riding and touring. The gas bill for that is still cheaper than golf, flying, and other forms of entertainment. It is cheaper and more effective than a shrink. It is also safer than renting hookers.

I'm not familiar with the tedium, but I think diesel technology has come a long way since the early 90s. Maybe far enough to make them think again about it. Who knows....

You mentioned a gas or diesel TDM. The gas version of that bike was sold in the early 90s and did not do well.

As for diesel selling now, I am sure there will be some who will buy them, but, the people I see buying R1s, R6s and other sport bikes (and these are some of thebest sellers besides cruiser models), I do not see these people as someone who wants an economical ride. They are into the sport for far different reasons.

Now you might sell a cruiser rider to buy a diesel biike...
