Learn to negotiate

MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) is about $8700 +/- on the Gixxer 600. The dealership does not pay this much for the bike. You need to understand that up front. I have negotiated with cycle dealerships in the past and they usually will deal with you. I bought a Brand new Honda Rancher ATV last year. The sticker was $4700, and I negotiated $4200 out the door. This means the bottom line number and amount financed was $4200. Also, if your credit is good, look for financing through your bank or credit union, as you will usually get a better interest rate. NEVER, EVER fall for those $79.00 per month deals. Most know that that price is only for the first 12 or 24 months, then the APR adjusts to some ungodly amount. God forbid if you are 1 day late on a payment in those months, because you get hit with like 24,99%. Go in knowing how much you want to spend, and go in with a pre-approved loan from your bank. This puts the power of negotiation in your hands. These salesmen work on commission, and they want to sell bikes.

Good Luck selling it, but I have seen similiar bikes going for $7500. I would do what I could to keep it. JMHO

I friend of mine just bought an 06 gsxr 750 for $8725. That didn't include taxes or tags since he bought in a differant state. I'd say if you can get $9k out of your 600 you'll be doing good. Best of luck with the sale.

You have to remember, that no matter what you end up paying out the door, the bike is only worth $8700 when you buy it. Yes, you pay plenty for tax, title, and registration. But you have to remember that in most states, the next person that buys the bike ALSO has to pay sales tax on it! When you sell a bike, you can't reasonably expect the next person that buys the bike to pay for the taxes, title fees, and registration that you paid when they also have to pay their own title and tax fees when they transfer the title to their own name.

$12k out the door? Wow.

Best of luck, though. And sorry to hear that your plant is closing down - it sucks to be laid off. Been there, done that, got the bloody t-shirt. I hope you can rebound quickly and maybe not end up having to sell your bike!
