It's always worth making a quick call to your insurer to request a rate review. Sometimes rates go down or other factors change (age, length of time insured, marital status, maybe points dropped off your license, etc) before the insurer reviews your policy, and they'll happily let you pay a higher rate until the next review.

You can request a rate review, and if your policy has gone down, they'll often refund the difference. If they give you a hard time, and it makes enough of a difference, you can always threaten to cancel the policy and start a new one at the lower rate.

You could save a few bucks, and all you have to loose is a few minutes on the phone.

How serious is it to them if you cancel? My experience with a few companies (USAA and Progressive) pretty much started the cancellation process immediately when I told them if they can't come close to company X's price and keep me as a customer, then I want to cancel my policy.

In my experience, they just refund you the difference if your police is already paid in full. It's probably not serious to them if you cancel, but if it'll save you a few hundred dollars, there's no reason not canceling and restarting a new policy if they refuse to refund your existing policy. But like I said, I've never had to go that far. One time I was refunded around $300, and most recently, $85. Hey, the money's better in my pocket...
