First of all, let me thank all who gave pointers on what to bring and tips on what to do. Now for the fun parts. We had a great time for sure and I can definately tell you all that I'll be doing it again, although there are muscles I did not know existed that are sore and I didn't even crash. We arrived on Friday about 5:00 P.M. I believe and set up camp on one of the many empty pit stables. The place was empty untill later when more pepople trickled in. We of course ruffed it so to speak, what with our Laptop DVD movies, 50 degree weather air conditioning and trailer back lighting thanks to ZXRon for the trailer use BTW. For Saturday there was a guy from South Florida, unfortunatley I suck at remembering names but he was very cool about giving information about track riding. He was sporting a 2006 GSXR 1000 and said he was a Novice track rider but proved not likely as for most of the day I could not keep up with him untill we got caught in traffic. Mind you they mixed intermediate and novice together. Even though they did that there was only about 8-10 bikes out there at any time. After two sessions of 20 minutes each, there were a few crashes, one guy on what I think was an MZ skorpion cafe racer who was riding a little to aggressive around other riders including newbs like me, (I was the only first timer, and he past me on the inside on my 3rd lap of the day.) Anyway He ran wide or low sided exiting turn 1 and went about 50-60 yards out into the dirt. after a couple laps on yellow another rider went down in the same area. I think his rear stepped out and the grabbed and he let off the throttle and he highsided. Ron talked to him and the guy said that there must have been something in the road that caused the wreck. Could be, I remember seeing those real small birds running across that area earlier. For the rest off the day I can say I got passed and did some safe passing myself but it was a great learning experience and I can't wait till I can do it again. Maybe Ron will have a track bike by then. After the wrecks my wife "ok'd" the future purchase of a track only bike so we'll see. Here's some pics although a little fuzzy, Ron has more:
Dusk Friday night.

First couple laps turn 10.

The ability to not touch ground while not moving astounds me.

Ah yes, I remember my first track day experience as well. I'm sure you'll agree that riding the track is only half the pleasure. Meeting great new friends, being out of the "city" for a weekend, and the peace and quiet that comes with 10+ bikes hurling into turn 1 at 100+ mph.

I'm glad you had fun, I'm glad you rode smart, and I'm REALLY glad you didn't push it like a noob and crash. Turn 13 is my favorite as well, both because it's a smooth turn but also the first one I got my knee down in!

Looking forward to hearing future adventures.

I learned from others mistakes on turn 8. We walked the track on friday afternoon and saw the enormous amount off crasshes in turn 8. I tell ya what though. Walking the track is a real good idea for noobies. When walking you can see things in a better perspective. Since you are going much slower you can pick up details that you would normally miss at speed. I found places I did not want to be in and a better understanding of where the race lines were. When I got going on Saturday I was only taking turn 8 at 45mph but as the day progressed and I learned the track I glanced down to see me exiting 8 at 58mph and keeping the line tight. I wish I would have brought a stop watch or something to clock my laps. Not that I'm ever going to racing but it would still be nice to have. Turn 13 is my holy grail. I made up a lot of time in the right hander. I'm more comfortable making fast right handers than I am at lefties. This was made evident because my right slider is half worn through and my left was barely nicked. I don't know why. Time and more experience will only make me faster. I know sliding the knee is not an indcater of speed merely a measure for lean angle, but it sure feels good to smoothly drag around a turn. :fiddy :banana

sounds like you took a mature approach to your 1st track day, good job dude. As you saw, many riders even on a track day will push like a factory contract is on the line. Riding the way you are and taking a smart approach to the learning curve will make for many more fun track days.. Now you just gotta watch the wallet get thinner..

Yeah, I do try to keep a calm head when out there on the track, I wanna come back and the best way to be able to do that is bring the bike back shiney. The wallet is already getting thinner, but atleast now that I have all of my track gear I won't have to worry about that stuff. Now all I need to find is a race tail section (Cheap) and invest in a few more things for the bike. For instance; Rearsets, axle sliders, tires, tires and more tires, adjustable damper, clip-ons ( I hate the stock ones and I don't want to break my Heli-bars), Baxley sport chock. That will do for a start.

Way to go Sniper. Glad you had a good time. There should be a SBN track day comming up in the next month or so. (Hint, Hint) As far as parts are concerned. Get as many spares as you can afford. E-bay is a good starting point although there are stories of people getting shafted. I'll even go as far as getting a spare gas tank, that'll save you BIG one day.

Spares will be coming little at a time. A spare tank and other things will definately be on the list. Don't know if I can make it to that one, but I'll try.
