I finally made it out to Cincinnati to pick up my CBR600F2. I haven't ridden it yet (the only reputable motorcycle shop that sells helmets is closed until tuesday), but damn does it look good. This is my first bike, and after cranking the motor for like 15 seconds the battery dies. I notice the red switch is in the OFF position as opposed to the RUN position. I smack myself in the forehead. I charge the battery, put it back in, put it on full choke and try to fire it up again. No luck, it backfired like a gunshot. I open up the choke a little and try it again. still doesn't start. At this point I'm fully convinced of one of two things. Either 1. I am an idiot and there is something I'm not doing right, or 2. This guy sold me a broken bike. What am I doing wrong?

Ummmm.... Did you have the guy start the bike BEFORE you picked it up?
Sounds like you may have flooded the engine possibly.

i started it up myself at the guys house and it ran fine. how would i unflood it? because i just tried it again a few times and it keeps backfiring

if you need to unflood it, just let it sit for a while and try it again. or crank it a little bit every so often without giving it gas

it just sat overnight, and i havent been giving it any gas

i changed the plugs and it fired right up. 5 minutes later it died. im thinking whatever fouled up the old plugs just re-fouled the new ones. ideas?

I would call the dude and ask him if he knows what's wrong with it first.

Then I would do these:
Check fuel filter
check air filter (just because)
check/change gas
make sure the petcock is in on/run position
you might just have to get your carbs cleaned
edit: check all the lines including vaccuum

If it has been sitting, it sounds like your carbs need cleaning and possibly a stuck float.
Is there any fuel coming out from a vent line underneath the bike? Take the palstic handle part of a screwdriver and tap on the sides of the carbs. If memory serves me correctly you'll have to take the sides off.

Not sure about the F2's, but on the F3's there is a switch for fuel. Make sure the fuel is set to the "ON" position on the left hand side of the bike, if it's in the "OFF" position, your bike has no fuel. Make sure to turn it on and off with your bike.

yeah the petcock was off. I smacked myself in the forehead when i had this realization. ANYWAY tomorrow im getting my helmet and ill be riding! in parking lots anyways...

The only real problem is that the tach needle is gone. Maybe an upgrade to an F4 digitach is in order?
