I just bought a new computer and I want to be able to access the files on my old laptop. They're both hooked up to my network and I can see one from the other when I go to the network tab.

However, when I click on the other computer it always says I don't have access. I copied all my photos, music, etc to the "Public" folders on my old computer, and set them up to be shared with my new computer. It still doesn't work.

HELP!!!! Thanks! :cheers

Both Vista?

turn off firewalls, even the windows one, disable av software.

Try in safemode with networking.

Right click on the hard drive in your explorer and go to file sharing. From there you should be able to navigate and enable sharing and set passwords.

Once you do that, you should then be able to find it on your network.

Fixed it! I had enabled sharing from my old laptop, but it defaulted to password protected sharing only. Once I turned that off it opened right up on the new computer. Everything transferred over without a hitch.

Thanks for the tips guys! :cheers
