Since I started riding I've had facial hair but just recently shaved it off (Going though the LAPD hireing process) and I've noticed my chin gets very cold while riding. Does anyone else here use that to keep warmer in the winter or whatnot, just curious.

ive let my beard grow out, but never noticed it keepin my face any warmer...in fact, it tended to make my upper neck itch like crazy when I tightened down the chin strap in my helmet

Grab yourself a chin skirt for the helmet, or a balaclava.

I have a permanent goatee, but my neck still gets cold :)
+ Infinity on the balaclava.

Try to get one that isn't made of thick material though...if you get thick cotton, that can add an inch to the mass inside the helmet (Which will wear the pads down and make it uncomfortable for you).

neck socks work...

I can tell a difference even walking around campus on windy days in the winter... after shaving it's totatlly colder! Might not make much of a difference with a 30-60mph wind without another layer, ie necksock.

Riding around in 34 degrees Friday night I was glad I had my goatee, my neck seemed okay despite no facial hair, but my chin was definitely numb by the time I arrived at my destination. I would guess that it could have been much, much colder without it. Damn it better warm up soon! :)

I have a full beard that is mainly due to being lazy. I just hate shaving. But it does come in handy because I work outside all year long. The chin strap does bother me so when riding season comes around so I try to keep it shaved. I got one of those head socks to keep me warm and it works great.

Good luck with the LAPD. My state is extremely competitive when it comes to getting hired so LAPD may be a possible option of mine.

I use a scarf folded in half, placed above my nose and tied behind my neck and then slip on the helmet. Works great, easy to store when not needed or it gets warmer throught the day, can be used as a hankerchief (make you you wash it before next use) LOL!

I had all those other things mentioned here but that has worked the best for me.
