Do you wave to bikes when you are driving your car? I waved to one today while sitting at a light, and the guy looked at me like I was crazy! Since I'm new to riding, I thought it was custom for riders to wave to each other, but I guess it's only when you are on your bikes when you do it.

:bitchslap he obviously doesn't know you are a fellow rider when you are in your cage. Some people have known to do it out of habbit when they are in their cage, but it's generally not customary for cage to bike waving :bitchslap

No, never done it. However, I've caught myself leaning into bends in the cage. I can go weeks without driving my car, so when I do, it's culture shock! :lol

You need to give them the secret signal too. Then they'll know you're just working undercover as a cager.

I had a cager in a beemer wave at me the other day through a window cracked slightly open. Thought he was flicking something out the window but he smiled at me and gave a thumbs up as I passed. I gave him a nod, then thought he was gay.:lao

So the concencus is that you shouldn't wave to bikes when your in your car unless you know the person and they know you.

Give them an inverted peace sign. (which mean keep the rubbers on the ground). Or just a thumbs up-- no waving.:eek:nfloor

I've thought about it, but I'm usually in my cage because of bad weather, so my windows are shut and waving really isn't an issue.

I HAVE, however, started waiving to cops. I usually get a blank look, ignored, or a funny look.

I've stopped my self from doing it, just a habit, plus for some reason when I am in my car I tend to see more bikes.

I usually go for long periods of time without driving my truck. Then when I do, out of habit I end up waving to the first bike I come across. After the first one I don't wave anymore, but I feel like I'm missing out.

I always wave at kids when they wave at me while I'm on my bike. I was sitting at a stop light in Destin the other week, and there were two kids in the backseat of a car, and the boy was about 7 or so, and he kept looking back and waving at me. It turns out we were both going to the same store and I parked only 2 spaces from them, and he gets out the car and runs up pretty close to me and tells me my bike is pretty cool! Kids are cool. :)

Maybe you should start wearing your helmet when driving your car; then your fellow riders wouldn't be confused why you are waving :)

As for kids, I always wave at kids and expect any passenger I have to do the same. I include it in the before ride chat with a passenger. Always keep your feet on the pegs; Look over my inside shoulder in a turn; Always wave at any kid under 10 who watches us go by....

I just nod like if we both are part of a secret society and just give way for him to pass or just be confortable. I also tend to help them keep safe as best I can in my cage. Ussually blocking big rigs or idiot cagers hat obviouslly don't know he's there. Type of an escort thing till or path diverge (no following).
