if you are talking about a general practitioner, yeah, there is a reason why it seems like they aren't doing much. they are usually the doctors that did poorly on their boards and could not place in a residency. some do choose to go into a general practice, but that is rare. they really don't make that much money considering the education that they went through. compared to the hours that a specialist has, a general practitioner, the type of doctor you see in a minor med place, pretty much has a 9-5 job.
I am currently doing research and will be taking the MCAT soon so that I can hopefully enter med school. Right now it is scary some of the people that they let into med school, and I don't want to get into an argument on affirmative action, but they definitely are letting people in med school that can't cut it.
