Simple Green, spray it on..... hose it off. That's how I used to clean mine.
+1. I had a 93 F2 with white rims and Simple Green worked really well for cleaning them. What I couldn't remove with Simple Green I used Bar and Tar Remover on.

Hah! Today I was cleaning my bike and the wheels were quite dirty. I just installed 520 kit and fixed a slow, but steady oil leak. I was thinking, "Man these things are a bitch to keep clean!". Of course I come on here and read about it too! :lao Some good tips to clean them, thanks!

I used WD40 when I had white wheels and it worked great, just don't get any on the tires.

I use a product called "Lifter 1, bug and tar remover" to clean the orange wheels on my Z1000. Works great. It's a spray on aerosol and it easily removes road grime, brake dust, etc with little effort. Just spray on and wipe off with a towel. I buy it at Advance Auto. It is also safe on paints and clearcoats.

also, the more often you clean the wheels, the easier they will be as you won't have as much crap on them to get off.
