Monitoring-

Well not exactly HOW they check what you're looking at or when, because i know there are programs that do this. I guess what i'm really wondering is what exactly can they log you doing? Such as when post are NWS, that is posted so people don't "accidently" open them. Now if you were to open that at work that had something agianst "porn" would they be able to track that there was a picture inside of a posting you opened. A posting which wasn't blocked by the companies system? Anyhow if you know anything and are bored inform me.
Also, tracking systems, i'd assume they log the time you open a page and the html. Do they do duration or the tag/title that is associated with the page? I'm an intern in an IT department and yes i could ask somewhere here the specifics, but i feel when you ask certian questions people feel you have already committed a crime. Say asking an officer exactly the method he uses to hide from speeding bikers. Then he would just assume you need to know so you know how to aviod him.....

depends on the system, if you have a proxy server in place or not, there are alot of variables. Websense is a program that tracks internet usage, and I have heard it can track almost EVERYTHING, who, what, when, where, how long, etc From my experience with web tracking, there is nobody in the company that has time to actively monitor the stuff, they use it as ammunition. Like a supervisor will go to IT asking about one of his employee's because he/she thinks that said employee isn't doing his/her job and is spending time on the internet instead.

Ok i just did my own search on google for info. Yes all depending on the software which most places are prob up to date can see and know what you have looked at when and for how long etc. And you are right there have to be more things for workers to do other than just scan employees. Like always if you give them a reason to think you are doing something wrong then that is when it will happen....

Well back to work for me

Alot of it is advertising based, to get a idea to what people are looking at so they can target ya better. Advertising is one of the evils of the net.... Alot of spyware is from them, they pay the virus writers to write clever little proggys that are dam near impossible to remove and getting more and more cleaver everyday.... Alot of the good coders write that stuff because its a source of income to pay for there own fun.

In a work place the worst you need to worry about is if they hide a key logger on your box... then ya got problems because they know everything you been up to.... a key logger is a tiny little file that reads every keystroke and sends or stores it to a file.

As an IT guy, i can find out ANYTHING i want about your browsing habits pretty easily. Websense and key loggers are only two of the ways companies can track what you do.

In other words...just don't fuck up on work computers if you want your job.
