Well, pulled the bike out of storage Sunday and low and behold I had about a four or five inch long covering of rust on the chain. I apparently did not lube it well enough or it was exposed to moisture - no idea how this went down. That being said, the rest of the chain is rather clean and well lubed - but there is rust on the area I spoke of. It does not appear to be inhibiting movement.

New Chain? Scrape off the rust and relube?

Suggestions on how to handle this would be appreciated. I don't want to purchase a new chain and sprockets unless I have to.

Clean and lube

Since the chain wasn't being used dry and rusty, no real damage should be there

After you clean and lube, inspect and make sure you don't have stiff links
