I would like to know if synthetic oil can be used in a Yamaha 03 R1? We were told synthetic could not be used cause it would go thru the rings. So regular oil has to be used. My brother purchased this R1 about 3 weeks ago and he wants to change the oil. If synthetic can be used what is the best brand?

I won't say anything about brands, as everyone has an opinion.

As for synthetic, whoever told you that you couldn't use synth on the R1 is a moron. You can use synthetic oil on it, no problem.
